I picked up a used Ruger M77 that will not fire about 40% time due to a light strike I think. I reload for it and originally tried fed 210 primer and it was about 90% failure tried CCI and then about 40% failure. The question is anyone else have this problem what did they do to fix it. I got the phone number for the repair center in Quebec and ordering a new firing pin assembly is an option, there closed now so I thought I would post this here for now. I'm in Vancouver area are there any gunsmith that have fixed these before, Getting the bolt apart in no problem but removing the spring requires a special tool. Any comment would be helpful.

Has the bolt been apart and not put together properly?

Have you tried factory ammo?

Pull the firing pin and measure the length and compare it to new
pin spec's?
Reliable should be able to help you out if you're not comfortable doing the
disassembly yourself.

Try a Wolff spring.

Had a similar problem (light firing pin strikes) in a Ruger M77 RSM. The 'smith suggested a firing pin spring replacement and that cured it 100%.

Shop around though. The first gunsmith had a jig that made the bolt dis-assembly and firing spring removal a snap ($20 job). Another fellow quoted $100.00 to replace the spring (labour only).
