Ruger m77 mark2

Ruger 77's are a Well built & dam strong Hunting rifle.
The All weather is called as such because it features Ruger's Synthetic stock and stainless steel.......the "Normal one " I assume you are reffering to would be the blued steel and wood stocked 77;)
Ruger had/has a bit of a bad rap in the past about not being shooters however I've owned enough and seen enough Rugers that shoot amazingly well to discount this as "Crappola" :D
For a No nonsense Hunting rifle that is built like a tank and reliable as all heck the 77 Rugers are well worth the asking price and certainly will deliver more then acceptable accuracy for a Hunting Rifle

the trigger is usually the only complaint people have with ruger rifles... they are an awesome hunting gun. just swap a timmney trigger in and your set with an awesome gun :)

awesome eh :)

+1 compared to the winchesters/remington/etc hunting guns out there, they are probably the most rugged and reliable. put in a timney trigger and you've got the perfect hunting gun in my opinion.

Good hunting gun, not a benchrest gun .....Laminate stock, stainless steel, compact 16" barrel version.....308....very versatile caliber in a very versatile easy handling reliable firearm... that is also good looking

The post man just delivered me a new stainless/synthetic the other day:D Unfortunately, I've been too busy to shoot it yet though  I bought two boxes of factory ammo and have a couple handload recipes to try soon!

Initial impressions:

-love the action. its very strong looking and quite smooth.

-the stock fits quite well, better than the previous model "boat paddle" hollowed out numbers. Its noisy though when brushed up against anything. It also seems to amplify action noise if that makes any sence..

-I really like the hinged floor plate. The lock up is precise and the release is skookum and I can't see an accidental release happening very easily!

-the trigger has about 1/8" of take up, then a quite crisp release albeit with a pretty heavy pull. I've definitely shot/hunted with worse and will try things out stock. I do see plans for a timney or other improvement down the road.

-I like the factory rings! all steel and the mounting system seems strong as hell..

-weight is listed at 7lbs minus a scope and it certainlly feels nice and light to me.

So there's some initial observations from a Ruger rookie. All in all I'm quite happy with it and will be more than satisfied if it shoots well which I will be getting to toot sweet. I'll be mounting a Burris Fullfield 3-9 on it for trials hopefully tomorrow. :D

+ 1 Salty

My 25-06 shoots real well, well below MOA out to three hundred yards. That was completely stock.

Since then the trigger was switched out for a Timney. Well worth the money, real nice trigger for the money. Down the road I'll get it bedded and float the barrel, if only to keep the POI from changing from season to season.

I really like the simple, robust Mauser type action. The safety is one of the best in my opinion, I really prefer safeties that lock the bolt.

I feel that for my uses they need a little more tweaking than say a Tikka, but no more than a Rem or Winchester.

I concur with Salty's points, should shoot real good for you Salty........... let us know.:)

good guns. i have had a m77 and now have a 308 mk11. good shooter, not as good as my tikka t3's but close. there very durable. i'm thinking of another in 350 rem mag.

i have one in 30-06. Never let me down yet, from gophers to bull elk. Plenty of 5 shot groups under an inch at 100 yards with factory and hand loaded ammo. When i need a go to hunting rifle, out comes the Ruger. It was the first big game hunting rifle i bought new, and well worth every penny.

Well, I made it out to the range today to shake down my new mk11. I decided to just go with factory ammo to break it in and have a bench mark to compare to for reloads.

I had some federal 150 grain power shock(?) sumthin like that... and Winchester 180 grain power points. We're talking .308 here. Took a few shots to get zeroed and I settled down for some 3 shot groups, letting the barrel cool after each group.

Well at first there wasn't much to write home about. The 150s were around 2" and the 180s strung out in a vertical line for about 4" No biggy I thought its new and might need some stock tightening or the barrel to wear out some rough spots. Went to give it a good cleanin and realized I forgot my patches:redface:

Shot another group of each anyway after fine tuning the scope some more and again nothing to great for accuracey although a little better, the 150s below an inch and a half the 180s still over 2". Let it cool good as its pretty hot today, I shot some .22 to kill the time.

Decided I'd go one more group of each and no more cause I'm up around 15 rounds now. Well hot damn, two Federals touching and the third very nearly for less than 3/4". The 180 Winchesters were about 1 1/4". :) Looks like she'll be a shooter without any dicking around at all. BTW, that cheap noisy stock is not to bad at all from the business end. I might just get a neoprene cover to make it a little quieter and leave the sucker as is. :D

Ruger model 77 mark 11 comes recommended by Salty........

Well now, I'd say it settled down quite nicely...............:) M77 MIIs get under rated in my experiance.

I have a Ruger Mark II in 6mm Rem.I don't have any problem shooting sub MOA groups with it.Even the trigger is not to bad.

I'm thinking the same River Rat. I've spent a fair bit of time with less than good triggers so maybe I'm not too fussy, but I find the trigger on this new Ruger pretty decent.

Back to Lefty - yes it did settle down all right. Looking forward to handload experiments:cool:

The only complaint I have is that the factory recoil pad is made of some strange scientifically designed material that has the deflection of reinforced concrete. If you're gettign one in a big caliber you may want to swap that pad for a Pachmayr or Limbsaver.
