RUGER M77 Mk ll and Hawkeye...

The main differences are the trigger (LC-6 in the Hawkeye), the available stocks, and the finish of the stainless steel. I prefer the classic M-77 Mk II in all categories especially the finish on the stainless, which is a dull matt on the Hawkeye and fugly IMO. The only exception is the Hogue synthetics on the newer guns which are pretty nice.

I much prefer the hawkeye stock; the comb was reshaped, the forend is thinner and my smallish hands get a better grip thanks to the wraparound checkering, which I always prefer to panels.
The trigger is better too, but an adjustable would be the greatest improvement.
Like woodlotowner, I prefer the Mk II's metal finish to th Hawkeye's; I like matte finishes just fine, but the Ruger matte is greyish and scratches easily.

+1 for the Hawkeye, LC6 trigger an reshaped ergos... I have a Wood stocked model, which was bought for the blued/black barrel to restock, but i enjoyed the wood stock so much i kept it that way.

Hands down my favourite stalking rifle.

mines a .35whelen

i will add, the lc6 trigger isnt exactly light glass, it does not creep an breaks clean although there is some weight albiet not much behind the trigger
