Ruger M77 Mk1 - Opinions

I have 3 of them at the moment, if memory serves. A 257 Roberts, 338 Win Mag, and a beater 30-06 I bought for a project. I like them better then the newer models, but the fore end of the stock is too thick for my taste. Narrow it down a little (the rest of the design is good) and it improves a great deal. Swap out the aluminum floorplate for the steel version, work the trigger over, bed and float as required. Gives you a very, very good hunting rifle. FWIW - dan

Who carries the steel floorplate? All I can find are short action ones in the USA. I need a long action one for my 35 Whelen.

I too prefer the tang safety model vs the MII's. Having said that, I am considering a 375 Ruger and am going to take long look at the new 35 Whelen when it gets north of the 49th.
