Ruger M77 mkII 30-06 possible project....

Happy new year to all!! I have that rifle in 30-06 that I would like to use for a custom job, I would like to have it re-barreled in 9.3x62, having the barrel half octogonal half round, with really nice open sights and possibly have a new stock made in the British stalking style or maybe a full length stock with decent walnut but nothing to crazy!! Maybe have the action colour case hardened.... who would you recommend for such a job (in Canada) and how much should I expect to pay??
Does it make any sense or am I crazy and out of too lunch to have something like done to that rifle?

Oskar kob could do the CCH on that if you wished. He does awesome work. Would be 350-400$ if you sent it to him as a stripped receiver. Depending on how long the receiver is changes the price a little.

Im building a rifle similar to what you described above. Oskar did the cch. This was 375$ all said and done(although i got it on trade from him)

Gorgeous. I've had several actions done up by him. I want my single shot Brno done next.

I suppose if the action has special meaning to the OP. There may not be many gunsmiths with the tooling to blueprint the cast action.

I mean it as some sentimental value since it was the first rifle I got after moving to the Yukon, got my first moose with it!!

Maybe look into reboring as opposed to rebarreling.
I thought about it, but I heard mixed info on this, not always possible depending on the barrel contour, some gunsmith are not comfortable with how thin the barrel would become!!
And plus I would like to have half round and half octogonal with nice open sights... but at the moment I just gather info to see if it is actually something worth it or not!!

That last bit is what you have to decide on - only you can decide what something like you want is worth to you. I think the "for sale" world is filled with someone's idea of a "perfect" custom rifle, for whom that person or his heir have not found a buyer who shares that opinion... So, do not evaluate on "worth it" - evaluate on what is it that you want and can you afford to do it?

Indeed! Thank you.

Ad for selling the rifle I tried and looks like it is not worth much more than $700-800 so I thought modifying it would be better than selling and re-buying something else!

it is always hard to sell a left hand ... but very easy to buy ....

good luck on your project i gave up on having a left handed mkii or hawkeye my zastava work well enough for me.

good open sights at least for me and i just changed the stock for a boyds one so i can use it the winter as well and fall with a slip pad on.

Ho mine is right hand! I was just thinking it would be cool to get it re-barreled and have the barrel fitted with nice irons on it !!

even easier lol ...

honestly in that case if you can find one is the african 9.3x62 very good sights and good wood ... a little more expensive than a regular 30-06 but less expensive than a 9.3x62 custom.

Like a Ruger or a Zastava? What did you have in mind? Possibly more than a rebarrel though?!?!
