Ruger M77 Tang Safety

I have a 243 HB up for sale currently. Lots of people looking but no takers. I enjoyed the rifle and it has seen some wear. I liked the workmanship of the rifles. I just have too many in the pile right now. Anyone have a short action stock available?

Greg

I think that I have a Six Enterprises fiberglass stock kicking around here somewhere, but I'm not sure if there is enough meat on the forearm part of the stock for it to be hogged out to fit the heavy barrel on your action..

yes guys it is a boyds stock. I got it just last week. These stocks they make, sure are well done!

I built the barrel for this rifle in 1995, and never had the opportunity to upgrade the stock since then. I Sure am glad with the results though!

Tang safety Ruger 77 is my favourite factory rifle after pre-64 model 70, great handling and in most cases as accurate as I can shoot.

One of my current projects is a customized 77. The stock is a one off custom walnut that I acquired years ago. Barrel is from a No.1 .45-70, fitted to a short action, and rechambered to .458 American. .458x2". Essentially a .45-70+P. Bolt face has been opened for the bolted case. Looks good, should be a real compact thumper.
It is just about ready to test fire.

Got an 80's vintage tang safety in 06. Love the gun, although 06 is a little big for island deer.
It came with one of those red "recoil pads". We used to call it the red brick o death, on account of how little recoil the stupid thing actually absorbed. Got a buddy who weighs about 135, all skin and bone, won't even shoot it anymore, he got bruised up so bad hahah :D

Have a cherry one in 7x57 that shoots very well.

Is that Boyd's heavy enough for a varmint barrel?

It would depend on the diameter of the barrel. I would tend to think it would be close! The boyds stock I have in the earlier post has a heavier than factory taper. I built the barrel myself back in 1995.

When I get home from work, I will measure the useable width of the fore stock and post it.
