What would be your pick. I'm looking for a handy rifle with iron sights for deer hunting. It has to be bolt action so we will forget about the lovely Marlin lever action.

CZ 550 Full stock or Ruger M77 II RSI....:confused:

Gentlemens, your opinions on the matter. ;)
 
Patience...some of us were too busy at work to post replies.

I'm not a manliccher fan. But I'd say to go with the CZ. Just because I don't have one myself and I have a Ruger (and love it). I'd liek to try a CZ though which is why I recommended it.
 
X2 for the CZ.

I prefer a european firearm for a Mannlicher.

Now, for the caliber it is very embarassing. 6.5x55 for the Mannlicher Shoener nostalgia or a little 9.3x62 brute?
 
I was thinking of something like a 308. For those who have the CZ, have done some bedding on it? Is it possible to have the barrel free floated even if there is the steel end cap?
 
Why not hold out for a nice used Mannlicher-Schoenauer M1952? You can not go to the gun shop and pick one up new, but that will make the purchase all that much sweeter when it does happen.

If not, I also give the nod to the CZ.
 
I'd say CZ. And please don't skimp on the caliber.
Even though it is tempting to get the 308 - everybody and their brother has ammo for it, It's like Jimbo said. the full stock is a simbol. Go the full length with the historic feeling and ge tthe 6.5 or the 9.3 you'll be happier in the long run.
 
I have 5 "Mannlicher style" rifles- 2 Rugers (308 tang safe and a 270 Mkll), 98 Mauser in 7x57, Heym in 30-06 and a Steyr Mannlicher in 308. I like them all. The Rugers and the Steyr balance beautifully and are a light to carry. I have no experience with the CZ, but I believe most have a detachable magazine which in my rifles, only the Steyr has. Nice feature.
 
No comparison... I have owned many Rugers and they have shot from extremely crappy to moderately crappy.

I have owned many CZ's and they have shot from extremely well to moderately well.

Will buy no more Rugers. Will buy more CZ's
