I have been reseaching and on a few forums people are talking that the early Ruger M77s and #1s most with bull barrels and years up to 1973 or 74 were Douglas Barrels. Ater that they were Wilson. Also was said that if your rifle had a bull tube and a old style bolt handle that this might be the case. Anybody heard of this? I wish there was a wedsite that would tell you the year and modle according to the serial#.:D

Ruger bought their barrels before they built their facilities to make their own barrels. Different orders went to different companies. Douglas and Wilson were the two most used, but I believe there were a couple of others used as well. This is from memory from gun articles in the late 60s, so it's all I recall. - dan

I have one of those early 220 HB Swifts with a Douglas tube on it. It is a very accurate Swift, indeed. This is actually my second Ruger 77V so equipped, but I shot the first barrel's throat out in about 3500 rounds. Regards, Eagleye.
