I just purchased a Ruger 1911 clone and it appears to be very well made. It's in 45 ACP, of coarse. I have zero experience with these pistols so I am interested in comments, pros and cons, etc..........I have had several Colts in the past and this appears as well made or better. How do they shoot? They certainly are not the price of the Colt or Kimber etc.

Tons of threads on the gun already if you do a search you'll have plenty to go through.

It looks like the best bang for the buck for mind range 1911. You can get better but will be spending a $1000+

You have no idea about the can of works you have just opened ..... you are going to get buried in replies, pro & con.

Get on the net and do some surfing. Some owners are delighted, others think they would make good paper weights. Quality control seems to be an issue with a few makers, Ruger among them. Get on the Ruger forum and other 1911 forums for opinions.

I've got a blued Remington R1 that rivals my Colt Gold Cup for slide to frame fit, but a R1S (stainless steel version) I just bought rattles when you shake it! Just this am I read something on the net about a Ruger 1911 doing the same thing. The problem doesn't seem to be specific to any maker in particular as they rush to meet the demand for 1911s.

I was surprised to read that even Kimbers have a bad rep amongst some owners. Others think they are wonderful. In future, do what I'm going to do - only buy guns that you have personally inspected or were done so by a competent, experienced person who knows what to look for.

As for how well it will shoot - probably better than you can hold; like most of our guns. It will tell you what it prefers in ammo and bullet type. The rest is up to you.

How's the rattle issue?

If your talking about the SR1911, I like mine. I have only owned it a short while and have not issues with it. As IM Lugger mentioned there are threads on the SR1911. I have a few myself. The only issue I have with this handgun is the factory white dot sight. Ruger has a litepipe for it but it is a no-no to ship ( I have an order with them, 20% of at ShopRuger.c**). Ruger order desk was a pleasure to talk to (20 minute wait, 17th in line for order). The worst of this news came from Western Gun Parts (Edmonton). They are looking at over a year for this backordered sight.

The $699.00 for this handgun was worth it and a fair price. Thanks to P & D.

Why play with WGP? They wont even come close to having such a part for a new gun. Ever thought of contacting Rugers' warranty depot for the FO sight? They do have them and have had so for some time for about $50 I believe. I am sure you know who their warranty depot is so I wont mention

I presently have one of these and am quite satisfied with it. I don't know if it "rattles" or not--mostly I just shoot it, not shake it. With my standard target load of 185 gr lead swc's I have had no ftf's and if I do my part it has no trouble in keeping all shots inside the black on a standard rimfire slow-fire target at 20 yards. Same performance with factory 230 gr ball. My only complaint is that the opening in the rear sight blade is slightly too wide.

I really like mine.

First day I got it I knew it was a 'never sell'.

Any 1911 that will feed ball, HP, SWC & LRN out of the box and still nail the gong at 100y 7 out of 7 is a keeper in my book!

The colts, STIs, kimber and smith 1911s I've owned couldn't. But the Armco tuned norks I've purchased over the years always seem to....

If you were talking to me, I'll be hearing back from the dealer Monday, and/or the importer.

I took the R1S to a local shop today and they are agreeable to swap me a NIB blued R1 (with tight slide to frame fit) for the stainless - AFTER I pointed out the deficiencies; loose slide to frame fit and lack of a bevelled mag well. Seems not everyone is as particular about such things or don't consider them important.

I'm waiting on developments first .....
