I'm gonna be buying one of these 2 pistols... which would you get and why?
As far as I know there isn't much of a difference between the two.

i have no experience with the mkII but i do own a mkIII

zero complaints eats all kinds of ammo. i probably have around 20,000 rounds in mine i clean it approx every 1500-2000rnds (i shoot at least a brick everytime i go to the range)

whichever one you get get the ultimate cliploader to make loading mags alot faster

The MarkIII has the thumb mag release as opposed to the heel release, has a LCI (loaded chamber indicator), a magazine disconnect, and a mechanism to lock the gun with a key. I personally like the thumb mag release, but the heel release isn't that bad. A MKII and a MKIII should shoot equally as well. A bit of a warning when it comes to the MKII and MKIII pistols, field stripping for the first time is really really really really going to suck. Have someone at the range show you how, or check out some sites online for instruction. Great pistols overall, I've had a few and they all shot groups about the size of a loonie at 30 yards with bulk ammo.

I've heard about the field stripping as well. I heard the Mark III was easier to field strip... though I haven't confirmed that. I don't see how it would be easier.

Never had a problem with my MKII; never did feel the need to upgrade to a MK III

The Ruger MKII is my go to gun and I will also never sell it. Too much fun and reliability in that package.

Personally, I find them the same to field strip but there is an extra step involved when reassembling the MkIII of having to insert the magazine. Yes, the first few times can be a little frustrating when disassembling/reassembling them but it becomes second nature once you do it a few times. Either a MkII or MkIII will last you a lifetime. FWIW, I have a MkII. Choose what you like best....

Wait for a mark II to pop up on the EE. The Mark III has the stupid loaded chamber indicator, magazine disconnect, internal lock, and 300 page safety warning machined onto the barrel. The warning is ugly as hell, and so is the chamber loaded indicator. It's all just extra parts that add complexity with no benefit whatsoever, and adds more steps to disassembly and reassembly.

I waited to find a Mark II and I am very glad I did. I would not have bought a Mark III under any circumstance. That is just my personal opinion of course. These things do not bother some, but I find them absolutely unbearable which is why I am ranting on :D

But hey, if you go with a Mark III and have spontaneous amnesia, you can just read the operation/safety instructions off the side of the barrel, you don't even need the manual LOL

Many including myself consider going from a Mk II to a Mark III a downgrade. ;)

I like my Mk3. No problems with it so far. Go to rimfirecentraldotcom...lotsa good info on the amazing stuff you can do on these little rugers. There're also lots of dissasembly/assembly videos etc on YouTube.

The lci is no issue to me, but I wish the mag release was on the other side. That being said, that too is not that big an issue.

Either one, I think you can't go wrong. Is the Mk2, shaped/angled to emulate a 1911? May not be a big deal for you, but with the Mk3, it is.

The 22/45 Mark II/III emulates the grip angle of a 1911 (that's why the number 45 is in the name), but the standard Mark II/III is more of a Luger grip angle.

I have never shot the 22/45, but the frame is all plastic, and the grip panels cannot be replaced which may or may not be important to you. For me, the all steel standard Mark II/III is the ultimate 22 handgun. I have shot S&W's and Buckmarks, but this gun just rules. The weight from the all steel contruction just makes it feel like a real gun, not a toy.

IMO, if you are going to go for a Mark II or III, get the stainless, target model with the bull barrel. Then spend $25 and get the Hogue Rubber Grip from rimfiresports.com (you will not BELIEVE the difference in feel... and free shipping to canada!), and T-Style mag loader.... and you have one sweet 22 that you will never want to sell. I am horrible for buying and selling guns quickly, but I have kept this one and it will never leave my possession.

Also.... even if you do get the Mark III, you can buy the Volquartsen Mark II hammer bushing from rimfiresports, and this part will disable the mag disconnect making the gun function just like the Mark II :D

Nice to see you like your Mark III Canuck.

I'm actually thinking of going with a non-stainless blued model with a 6 7/8 inch barrel.
I like a long barrel on that gun for some reason... looks awesome.

Its too bad we're not allowed to get a suppressor for this pistol... this pistol was made to be used with a suppressor. Not to mention it looks a lot ###ier with a suppressor on.
