I value the opinion of you guys/girls on CGN and I am hoping to get some opinions and feedback from any of you concerning the Ruger Mark III. I am interested in getting a starter gun for my wife and would like it to be fairly accurate and reliable for me as well. I have 4 Rugers already and have had no problems with them ever, so I would like to stay with the brand. Thanks for your input in advance.

I've got a mark III competition 6 7/8'' pistol and it's been very reliable for me.
It will many low power loads including remington sub sonics, pmc match rifle, and federal gold medal match without fail. I've also tried many different cheap bulk packs without any issues either.

Had two mark 3's one hunter model and one 22/45 model and about 5 Mark 2's in different models between barrel lengths, the mark 3's triggers are a little rough I would recommend a volquartsen sear then you won't have any problems, good shooters overall but still prefer the mark 2's for disassembly.

Let me say this. I have had extensive training and am extremely comfortable with most firearms. I've pulled apart M4s, M9s, Sig P226 etc. in the field but the first time I pulled about my Ruger III 22/45 sucked. But like anything once you're on to it, it's easy.
I have a Mk III Hunter and the second thing I did with it was replace the sear with a VQ sear. Now the trigger is acceptable. In doing so I also removed that secondary safety device that doesn't let you fire without a mag in place. Now my mags drop free when I hit the mag release. The pistol shoots without a mag and most importantly, it is easy to field strip and re-assemble without having to do the acrobatics outlined in the manual.
I have some competition grips with a thumb rest on it and a holosight. It shoots anything I put in it and it is very accurate. I do think the trigger needs to be worked on (ie drop in sear, hammer etc.) to get a fine shooting pistol. But for every day plinking its definitely a 10. Its a little heavy for my wife. She would prefer a Colt Woodsman type of pistol for size and weight.
I don't think you can go wrong with a MK III and I wouldn't expect resale to be a problem if you didn't like after all. One thing you HAVE TO DO is put some Loctite on the front sight screw. They didn't do it at the factory and after 10 rounds its flopping around and after 15 rounds it some where on the ground.

MkIII: GREAT gun. We have a stainless one and love it 
22/45: good gun; had a blued one but we got rid of it when we got the MkIII, if that tells you anything No particular reason, we both just liked the MkIII better.

I have a Ruger Mk II hunter 6 7/8 stainless also. Bough it new. Its a great gun. I did do a trigger job on it got the parts from Volquartsen and that really improved my accuracy. The trigger is very similar to my SW 41. I would recommend it to anyone. The only thing you have to get used to is how to strip it down.. a few times and you have it without the book in front of you. There are videos on the web that show you everything .. Also the Volquartsen website has videos also. Good luck with your Ruger!!!
