Ruger Mark III mods/upgrades?

Hi everyone,

I just picked up a used Ruger Mark III Target with the 6.8" slab sided barrel and am very pleased with it's capabilities. So much so that I am afraid to shoot some of my other pistols now, as it will be a humbling experience in comparison.

Anyway, I'm wondering what folks' thoughts are on upgrades. The magazine disconnect delete seems like something that would make life easier, but wonder what people think about the loaded chamber indicator delete or other mods. What mag loader do you like the best?

I know Volquartsen and Tandemkross make a bunch of parts, but I'm interested to hear what the CGN hive mind recommends. Bonus points if you name a Canadian dealer/site sponsor who carries them.

I also have a TRUGLO fibre optic front sight on mine, which I like, but would like to change the current green light pipe to red. Anyone know a good, cheap source for 0.06"/1.5mm fibre optic rods? I only need an inch or so, and don't really want to order several feet and pay more for shipping than the product itself.

Thanks for looking!

Remove the mag safety BS & install a Ruger MkI/MkII hammer bushing.
Remove the BS loaded chamber indicator & install a blank if desired.

Volquartsen replacement parts are simpler/drop in/adjustable,but not required if you are capable.

MkIV sears & hammers are NOT interchangeable w/ the predecessor MkI,MkII,MkIII sears/hammers.

IF,you remove the Bbl from the grip frame for maintenance/modifications-
Align the Bbl to the grip frame
Push the Bbl back onto the frame
Slip the hammer stop pin into the upper receiver pin hole aft of the rear sight
remove the pin/mainspring housing
Drop the hammer by squeezing the trigger
Insert the bolt stop pin back into place in the grip frame
FLIP the pistol up SIDE DOWN
Ensure the hammer strut is in the proper position at the mainspring housing
Pivot the mainspring housing up into position
You should have slight preload on the mainspring housing
Latch the mainspring housing
Cycle the bolt
IF the bolt does not full cycle allowing bolt release activation
The hammer strut is not in the mainspring housing
Unlatch the mainspring housing w/ a paper clip
Ensure the hammer strut is properly positioned

It's not Rocket Science.

Thanks. I am familiar with the take down/reassembly of Ruger rimfire pistols, but the mag disconnect adds another dimension to the hokey-pokey. Seems overly complicated to me and wanted to see if others felt the same.

I had a Sam Lam Harmer Bushing installed in my MKIII Standard by Sam himself. Great guy and he was located 10mins away in North York, Ont.
Don't know if he's still in the business but if you shipped him your lower he would install the best fitting bushing and ship it back.

The bushing made a difference in a few ways.

Thanks for the review. I've found his contact info online but no mention of him on any forum for years and years and years. I wonder if he's still active.
