Ruger Mark III ??

Is there a better pistol? Yes. Absolutely.
Better deal buying new for something worthy? No way!

That being said, the model 41 S&W was always one of my favourites which I regret having to sell a ways back. However it's about 4-5 times as much as the ruger for the target models.

I agree but out of the three above new which is better?

Thanks T

None are better or worse. Just depends on which grip angle you like better. I personally really like the traditional ones (such as the first link). I have owned pretty much most of the .22 handguns out there and always go back to the MK Rugers. Love them.

I prefer the 22/45 because of the easy transition to a full sized pistol. So personally it's not which grip angle initially feels better it's which grip angle are you going to shoot the most. I wouldn't waste my money on a threaded barrel, the chances of you shooting with a suppressor in Canada are slim to none. That money would be better spent getting a stainless or target model.

you cant beat a ruger with a trigger kit (i like volquartson - sear only)unless you spend wellover 1500 and get into walther, hammerli etc.
they are very accurate and will eat almost any ammo

Thanks everyone ended up getting the one from blueline. I got the Ruger Mark III Target bull barrel. I have been reading the grip is not the greatest. Just wondering what other people use? Also what store you got it from? Lastly I have been reading I should not clean it and just shoot it and clean after the first shoot. Is this true?

Thanks T

Hi, it is a good thing to clean it before shooting, to get rid of the greace and dirt. I use HV ammo to break the gun and after a thousand round I go down to SV ammo. It is my second MKIII and I never had any problems with them. With the new video Ruger put on their web site, it is really easy to disasemble and reasemble them....

Always inspect and clean a firearm before shooting. As Jack_GN mentioned you have to get rid of the factory grease and any dirt in the firearm and it's always critical to become familiar with the manual of arms prior to using. You should be competent in stripping and reassembling a firearm before you have a problem with it, not after...

NEVER NEVER shoot a brand new gun without a good exhaustive first cleanning !!!!!

Don't put too much oil on parts, remove excess....., oil the barrel when the gun is in your safe and remove the excess oil from it before going to the shooting range...

For the Mark III, go on yutube to see how to reassembly the gun, patience you will need for the first time....

I've found a Hogue grip on ebay for my Mark III, just wonderfull now to shoot with it ...

Enjoy !!!!

Thank you all for this info. I will definitely strip it down and give it a thorough clean and lube. Does anyone have a link to a good video? I bought an HK 45 and this recently and hopefully will have my ATT by New Years. It will be a lot of learning and fun.

One last question I was reading that there is something not to remove or else I will need to visit a gun smith a pin of some sort. Any tips around avoiding it?

Thanks Terry

I agree with others, the Ruger MarkIII is an excellent and reliable shooter compared to many other's.If you do get one I would suggest cleaning it as best you can with the bolt open, then shoot the crap out of it before you take it down for a more through cleaning. They are very tight and nasty to take down (and put back together) for the first few times...

best .22's out there for target shooting, cant go wrong with it, mine has gone through 3or 4 years of use, 10's of thousands of rounds, only ever took it apart once to clean, otherwise gave it a quick wipe down every fe thousand rounds weather it needed it or not

Each time I shoot my Ruger Mark III Hunter, I take it apart for the clean up, each time...., it is clean as it was brand new.....2000 rounds + in it....., it is not so hard to do, you just need a rubber hammer put down the barrel and put it back, that's it, once apart it is very very easy to have access to all parts, the ''inside'' rail can be apart also ( the spring with the ''u'' shape part).

to put it back together, you need to follow the steps ......., go on yutube, great videos..., make sure to understand why steps needs to be followed (check how the parts react and you will understand the mecanism)......, like I said previously, you will need patience the first time.....
