Ruger Mark IV Recall Question

Is a recalled Mark IV the same as a new revised one? It's at the top of my list for my 1st handgun. I figure any for sale for the next little while are going to be the recalled ones.

No all the new ones for sale are NOT part of the recall pistols.

Sorry, I worded that wrong. I meant to ask if there is any difference between a Mark IV which has had the recall work performed vs. a new revised one which was not part of the recall? I.e. are the parts replaced during the recall the same as the parts found on a new revised one from the factory?

I believe the parts are the same. The difference is in the serial numbers as to which have or need to be modified vs which are correct right from the factory. If the serial number starts with WB or 401, it will be one that is subject to the recall. If it has those serial number prefixes but has a small "s" stamped into the white dot indicator on the safety switch, it has been modified to comply with the recall. If the serial number starts with 500, then it left the factory without the "defect" and does not need the recall work done. Does that answer your question?

From what I can tell, Ruger is replacing the entire lower Frame (Has no serial number) with their fixed new current production Frame. I believe all Ruger MKIVs whose serial number begins with 401 and later up to 500 had to be fixed.

That makes sense then. The LGS has a few in stock that have had the recall work performed already, if they are identical to the new ones then there's no reason to be picky then.

"Firearms That Have Been Retrofitted Already

Finding Retrofit Marking Mark IV™ and 22/45™ pistols retrofitted with the updated safety mechanism are easily identified by the letter "S" in the white safety dot that is visible when the safety is engaged."

about how to identify one that was never a subject to recall : "if you have a Mark IV™ or 22/45™ pistol with a serial number beginning with the number "5," your pistol is not subject to the recall."

getting today my SW22 :). Read somewhere that this SW22 was the reason why Rugger rushed to make the Mark IV. And made it even simpler to disasemble. One downside of Ruger Mark IV - I believe can't remove/swap the barrel itself as on the SW22 the barrel is hold by one screw.
