What is the reputation of this rifle? Is it a good choice in a 223 rifle or are there better guns for the money? What's the trigger like? Adjustable?

The M77?

I have a M77 in 30-06 and I havent had any problems at all with my rifle. The action may be a little rough at first, but that is a easy fix. The trigger is adjustable from what I have heard (more info on the board, just do a quick search)???

All in all, i really enjoy shooting my M77. It is truly a out of the box hunting rifle, bot accurate and reliable.

i have an all weather is .223 and it is a great gun. pretty accurate, almost shoots a sub-moa 5 shot group at 300 yards with factory ammo. the bolt is a little ruff when it's new but once you break it in it's pretty smooth. the trigger is a bit heave and has some creep but i got used to it. mine likes 55gr fmjbt american eagle, no good for hunting but a good plinking ammo at $5.99 a box

The listings at SIR mailorder and Wholesale Sports call it a K-77? Its a stainless gun with a synthetic stock. The price certainly seems reasonable for what you get, including scope rings. Is that Ruger ring system good?

Here's the description from SIR mailorder. Of course they don't tell you the twist of the barrel.

Ruger® K-77 RP Ruger Stainless. MK II Rifle (.223 Rem)

The Ruger M-77 Rifle offers the sportsman excellent performance and reliability while preserving the form and balance of the classic bolt-action design. For strength, the barrel, receiver and bolt are made from heat-treated chrome-moly steel. Two massive front locking lugs and a positive long extractor, combined with one-piece bolt construction, result in extraordinary strength and reliability. The safety is located on the tang and readily accessible. The floorplate is easily opened for unloading by pressing the release lever located inside the front of the trigger guard, the barrel/action assembly of the M-77 Rifle is precisely fitted to the stock. Scope mount bases are integral with receiver.

K-77 RP Ruger Stainless. MK II Rifle With Ruger Integral bases and 1" scope rings. (No sights). Black Zytel stock. Weight: 7 lbs. Barrel: 22".

From Ruger's site, it looks like their 223's are 1:12 twist.

The main down fall of the Rugers, IMO. I went with the Tikka T3 for my 223. Not cause of the twist, just cause Ruger doesn't make a LH 223.

The M77 MII is a great rifle, even if it can use a little refining out of the box.

Bought the Ruger 223. Where are you getting that inexpensive ammo? And what is a good varmint round for this rifle? Am I correct in that anything over 60 grains is probably too heavy for this barrel twist?

I can now report back on this rifle. It positively lives up to my expectations. After getting it sighted in, I was able to shoot a six shot 1 1/4" grouping at 200 yards shooting off the hood of my jeep and using a folded up canvass tarp as a rifle rest. Yes, the trigger is heavy, but I can't fault this rifle otherwise. Ammo was 55 grain USA Accurate Ammo, fmj. I am certain the group would have been tighter had I been shooting off something more conducive to accuracy like a couple of sandbags or a proper rest. What more could you want in a lightweight hunting rifle? I can't believe how many posts I read from people who wrote that Ruger never made an accurate rifle. Absolute bull.

Those are the usual goofballs who only try one load then whine  or are just plain lousy shots :p The first 3 shots out of my M77 SS .338Mag was 3/4" with the first factory load I tried
