Ruger MarkIII Hunter range report

Just got back from the range (Sherwood Park) ....ok, I had a nap first. I spent 4 hours plinking with my new to me Ruger Mark III Hunter.

I tried a variety of ammunition:

American Eagle: Out of about 300 rounds I had 4 FTF's and a couple FTE. (all refired after rotating)
Federal Bulk Pack: Out of about 100 rounds I had similar results
Winchester 333: Out of about 20 rounds I had no FTF but about 6 FTE.
CCI Mini Mag HV: Out of 100 rounds it functioned flawlessly.

I was shooting at 15 yards and no matter how I adjusted the sights I still had to aim at the 5 o'clock position to get what I concider to be not too bad groups for the first time out with the gun. This was the 3rd and last target of the day. The stickers went on when I thought I had the sighting figured out.

I'm certainly open to constructive critiques.

The biggest improvement to accuracy is to change out the V-notch site and the front high visibility sight. They are no doubt great for hunting, but not so good for target shooting. I had adjustable Partridge style target sights put on mine. Made a world of difference.

Also try Lapua Super club for any serious work. I use American Eagle just for plinking but not when I want to test my best accuracy.

It's a nice pistol.

I have the 22/45 Hunter,
Same issue with the sights, plus, when the barrel heats up the front sight comes loose.
JB weld has since cured that issue.
How do you like the Fobus holster? Did you pick it up locally?

Thanks. I never thought to check the fit on the front sight. I imagine at some point today the barrel was fairly warm as there was some rapid fire involved......just 'cuz.

I've only tried the holster a couple times and do like it. The first time I put the gun in I couldn't get it out, WTF? I'm looking for a release and can't find one.....and then, 'hmmm I wonder what this screw does'?

When I had the stock front sight, it came loose on me. Wondered why my accuracy went to crap, then saw it swivel.

Changed the sights (had a gunsmith do it) and have never looked back. Great pistol.

What about a decent pistol scope? Red Dot? I'm very impressed by the way this gun feels and shoots and can foresee many a thousand rounds going through it.

Update

Went with a Bushnell Trophy 1x28 Red Dot. Time didn't permit sighting it in yesterday, so hopefully today. If I find I don't like it on the Mark III I'll try it on my soon (hopefully) to be purchased Charger.
