I'm thinking of ordering the new ATI model.
Does anyone here have any views or experience with them?
Any recommended Ruger dealers in the Edmonton area?
Recommended scope for this rig?
Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Well, you wont be able to find one in canada due to the barrel length being only 16". You could however buy the ranch rifle and install an ATI stock, but i think you'd be better off with the factory wood or synthetic. Although i don't have any experience with the ATI stocks, i havent heard anything good about them.

I've had and played with a couple of ATI stocks (not this one, though) and found that they all had a very cheap and flimsy feel to them. I would never buy another one.

Could a dealer not import one as a restricted firearm?
There are just no demand for it.

The only attraction to owning a mini 14 is the relative cheap cost for a non-restricted .223 rifle, once it becomes restricted there is just no argument for not getting an AR.

The Mini 14 is a nice rifle, and I like mine as stock.

If you want to get a fancy stock, I recommend the Tapcos. They are very sturdy for a plastic stock.

Great feedback fellows!
Will rethink an AR.

If you can live with restricted, go AR all the way over a Mini-14. The AR design has been developed a lot, the Mini not so much I think (could prove to be wrong on that one, flame suit on)

As far as tactical style Mini, try Frontier Arms.

They list blued (sold out) and stainless for $1,089.00. It gets you non-restricted but you can get a decent AR for that money or less if you go with a Norc say.

"...no demand for it..." No ATT's for restricted rifles either, as I recall.
If you want to spend a pile of money on a Mini, buy the Target, but don't change the stock. Assorted, but few, U.S. forum range reports are saying they shoot far better than a Standard Mini.

Lots of people here are recommending Tapcos. I found that the for-end felt like a 2x4 piece of lumber and the pistol grip attaching with a screw into plastic did not sit well with me. They are kinda clunky feeling. I found the ATI's front handguard that screwed on with tiny little screws kinda cheap and the rails sucked. Someone still needs to come up with a good aftermarket stock for the mini that doesn't break the bank.

Good Christ! One can get an ATT for a restricted rifle same as they get for a pistol. Think before you post...

I know I'm posting late but if you see this buy the rancher style mini-14 and look into stocks made by troy. They just build one for the m14 and mini14's and they are ###y sleak, very ergonomicly designed.

the stock would also have to be pinned to come across the border. the only collapsible stocks allowed across the border unpinned is for shotgun.
