Any idea what these are going for these days?

It's VG+ condition. It has a factory folding stock and also the original stock.

Was an ex-OPP rifle, I can't verify this, but it has a rack number on the fibreglass handguard. It came from that batch that was for sale a few years ago.

(I put this in black rifles because it's a GB ex-OPP rifle so don't flame me) :p

Also, if anyone knows of a way to verify this was an OPP rifle, as in a copy of the original OPP sales receipt or something of that nature, I sure would like to see a copy.

Most of the OPP Mini's the I've seen have OPP stamped on the top of the bolt. No Folding stock Mini's were ever used on the road or by ERT that I have ever seen. It could have been a TRU Team rifle, but I don't ever recall seeing a single picture or reference of the mini being used.
Do you have a pic of the rifle ?

The factory folder never came with it. I just have it on for 'cool' factor. I have the original stock that came with the rifle. What does the OPP stamp look like? It has what could be an OPP symbol on top of the receiver. It's got PP inside an O and the left P backwards. There is a scratch on the right P which makes it kind of look like an R. It was difficult to get a clear pic of it. Rack #3. Also has original Ruger 5/20 rounder. See pics:

Thats where they mark the rifles. Either thee or on the bolt. It is stamped OPP at least on the final batch.
The mark 3 is probably a specialty team members number such a ERT, ROPE, DES ect, or a detachment vault number.
I have seen that stamp before but I can't conclusively say where or when, it's been awhile.
The Stock is in remarkable condition for an OPP beater. Any that I've seen were scratched and dented to hell from the years of use. The vast majority of OPP Mini's have or had a plastic stock.

Thanks for the info. The full stock may be a replacement, I have no idea, but the ones from that batch of Mini's all had these wood stocks and all rifles were in pretty good shape.

That's a Ruger proof mark.

Thanks tiriaq. I can't find any other markings on it.

Anyone know of a way to verify these OPP rifles without markings?

Does anyone have a pic the actual OPP stamp on a Mini14?

Going by the S/N it was made in '97 or '98. Also just noticed that it has #106 scratched on both ends of the magazine if that has any meaning other than which rifle it's for. Doesn't match this one's last three.

I'm going to try Ruger's records department and try to get more info.

When my friend was issued a C8, he turned his Mini in. I saw the Mini, but can't remember how it was marked. It was in a Choate pistol grip stock. Wasn't a GB. I'll ask him if it had any marks.

I purchased a 'package' from Police Ordinance a few years ago. They received a bunch in trade for Glocks. They then in turn sold them as surplus.

The ones that I received had the same random numbers etched into the hand guard on the left side. The numbers were anywhere from 1-12. Some of the mags had numbers etched onto them and some did not. The guns themselves were dirty & required some serious cleaning. Each gun came with 2 stocks, a virtually NEW original wood stock and a used synthetic Choat replacement stock. The Choats were fairly used in contrast to the wood stocks.

I found that generally they all had & showed signs of heavy use. My only real problem was the visible wear on the Slide Assembly, or for you M305/M1A people, the OP-Rod. Where it 'catches the receiver' and locks into the guide/slide there was ALOT of wear.... other than that I was happy with their condition. They all worked flawlessly despite their wear.

Knowing that the majority of the GBs here in Canada are surplus OPP or similar Police rifles I would check that Slide Assy for wear. You need to disassemble the rifle to accurately check it. The receiver is apparently harder steel than that Slide Assy. So, the Slide Assy will show the wear. The wear will be on the top of the 'nub/nipple' that constantly slides inside that track. If it is really worn you know the usage of the rifle. If it is nice and square then you should be good to go. The guns where there is wear will have a kinda loose Slide Assy vs a tighter one.

Hope that helps....

Hello VR,

I was able to locate the records for your Ruger Mini-14 Serial Number 186-###xx, This Rifle was purchased by Police Ordnance Company Inc. from a Police Service in Ontario . Due to several regulations we are unable to inform you which Police Agency previously owned this Rifle. I can confirm the Rifle was not purchased from the Ontario Provincial Police.

Your Rifle was a POLICE Service in-service rifle. This does make your Ruger Mini-14 more collectible as of 30 October 2008 Police Agencies are no longer permitted to sell any of their Firearms.

I trust this information is of interest to you and you realize you have a rather rare Mini-14 Rifle.

Have a great weekend and enjoy your rifle.

Respectfully,

Brian

Well there you have it. Ontario police force, did a lot of forces use these? Probably hard to narrow it down. I also contacted Ruger and they said it was originally sold to a distributor, not directly to a police force. So no luck from that side, they did confirm it was made in 1997.

I was lucky to also get one of these from Police Ordnance. Mine has the folding stock but it didn't come with a magazine or bolt to hold the folding stock in place. I was also missing a D ring and sling. I just ended up buying all these parts. It might be from OPP.

Sorry guys, I highly doubt any of the OPP Mini's will make it into civilian hands, seems most police firearms will be cut up,as of Oct 2008, pistols used by Ont police dept's can not be sold or traded in, not sure if this is the same with carbines. Value seems to run between $600 and $1200 these days on a GB. I know that's a wide range, but mini's don't seem to be that sought after, unless you find that collector that has to have a GB. Personally, I like my tac mini much more then most of the AR's I've had over the years.

Part of the reason that the police destroy firearms is the AR that nearly killed Louise Russo in Toronto was an Ex service firearm, stolen from a legal owner.
