I need a new hobby so I just started collecting collectable Mini 14's.

I was wondering what the pricing is for the following models:

QB Folder blued and stainless

QB Non Folder blued and stainless

Factory Folder blued

Factory Folder stainless

First year production "Southport" model, gold bead front site.

Are there any other collectable models?

I picked up my first factory blued folder a few days ago, picture attached.

Thanks.

Is there a web site I should join that may have some knowledgeable folks on Mini 14's? The problem I found is the good collector sites are all American and our numbers are different.

The Perfect Union forum has, or at least had, a very active Mini sub-forum with plenty of info.

In terms of collectables, I once had the chance to purchase a Mini factory-chambered in .222Rem. Didn't buy it. Have neve seen another.

I have a SS GB from the Utah Prison Service and a Blue GB from the London, England Police
I also have a mint SS Ramline copy of the SS Ruger folder stock
A the time , Ramline claimed that their copy was better made because they used heavier material in their construction

A 1985 XGI in 243.... Ruger pulled the plug on these. Some say they are real, they were listed in the 1986 Guns illustrated. I have only seen photos in magazines. Soon after the Mini 30 popped out.
But do try to get a 222 version, while rare they are easy to track down. Also try to get an ex OPP Mini. I have some ex OPP magazines.

The XGI rifles did not make it into mass production, but they were on the verge, and lots of promo materials were released, including the Ruger centerfold catalogue in at least one edition of Guns & Ammo magazine. Numerous pre-production examples were produced and Ruger sold most of them off just a few years ago through the auction program they host on the factory website specifically to get rid of rarities and one-offs. I recall seeing several XGIs sold through that venue.

I recall that the XG1 was featured in a LeBaron's catalogue back then. I "knew" that this would be the One True Rifle, which would satisfy all my shooting desires...I was in my 20's at the time, so of course knew nothing. :) :stirthepot2: :nest:

I was in the LeBaron's store probably once a week or so back then, and I asked about the rifle every time...to the point where a couple of the sales staff, upon seeing me walk in, would just automatically smile and say "Nope...not here yet...".
