I am thinking of purchasing a 2014 built Mini 14 and looking at the stamping on the receiver it appears it may be made in China now? Is that possible? I looked at a guys older Mini and the stamping looked more quality. Any good sites that talk about Mini 14 differences?

was it stamped "made in China"?

or did you have another clue?

The font has changed. Looks like something made in China now. I am positive my new Ruger SR22 the bolts were made in China. I know because they came loose after 50 rounds and i am a mechanic and can spot a chinese fastner from 20 paces.

It's about 1 step removed from china.... Cast bolt, cast receiver, cast trigger group, I think they would cast barrels if they could figure out how to do it.

mine is 2012 and its stamped made in the USA

co worker just picked one up this summer and its stamped made in the USA

seeing as ruger makes a big deal about their stuff being made in the USA i would find it hard to believe that there is a mini14 marked made in china.
in fact im confident enough to call bull on it.

picture or it didnt happen.

It wont change the gun, but it shows they have made changes to the gun.

That they did, they've changed their production, new machinery, and the new guns are tighter tolerances, better shooting, but that is a change that happened a few years ago. Serial numbers 580+

I have noticed that with the 580 series and newer, the markings on top of the receiver seem to be inked on, whereas any model before 580, the markings are etched right into the metal. That might be the difference you noticed?

Sorry, I should have been more specific. What I mean is, on the top of the reciever on my 184 series, 'RUGER MINI-14 CAL. 223' seems to be engraved into the steel, whereas the brand new ones I have handled that say 'RUGER RANCH RIFLE CAL. 5.56 NATO' seem to have the lettering raised instead of engraved, and accented in black ink (on the stainless models that is). I could be mistaken, but that is what I noticed.

Yea, mine seems to be laser etched. It's clean, and not too deep.
Ruger(aftermarket rear sight is covering most of the top line, I assume it just says Ruger)
Ranch Rifle
Cal. .223

Something like that.

Oh, forgot I had a picture
