Hey guys,

I have an issue with my mini-14. It seems the rear site bracket, where the scope mount goes through is stripped on the side that has(had) the threads to tighten the screw.

Anyone have this happen? What are my options to repairing it? It is part of the original receiver, not the scope mount.

HELP! :p

Either buy a Promag Sparta stock, they have a full length rail that requires you to remove the rear sight, or you could put a helicoil in it.

Is it the side mount scope plate??? I have a side mount rail and the metal bracket for it to screw in. Or if it is the newer top mount rail? Pic may help.

sorry i cant take pics ATM, but it is an old mini14, it has a rear site, that is like 2 ears, with something that goes in the middle to tie it all together. There is only one bolt going through the rear site, into the mount, nothing holding the front of the mount in place.
Not the newer pic rail type, but a weaver mount.

So is this a weaver rail that's bolted to the receiver with the rear sight bolted to the weaver rail?

It is a weaver rail, not really a rail, but a scope mount. A flat thing with two weaver ring attachment points. that is bolted to the receiver, that has the rear "site" part removed. It just gets mounted to the receiver, through the "ears" of the original rear site assby. I think the bolt is the original for the rear site??
I have not seen a newer mini, so i cant say they all have the same rear site.

If nobody knows by the time i get home tonight, i will post a picture.

thanks for the help guys.

I understand now, I only have a side mount bracket for a rail and the rail itself. Your type is a flat top on the reciever. If it has the flip up original rear sight with a very tiny machine screw, maybe it comes with a rail, check out vinzer sports , I think they sell the rail and it may come with the screw, I could be wrong. Budget yourself for a Sparta stock, it is the most solid mounting for optics for a mini.

I believe he is saying he has an earlier mini, without the integrated bases. Sounds like the OP is using either one of the s&k, weaver, Wichita top mounts that requires the removal of the rear sight, and bolts through the ears. I don't believe the Sparta stock will fit the earlier pre-ranch models?

you are correct, i was also wondering if it would fit, as the ears i am talking about are actually part of the receiver. The ear itself is the problem. It is stripped, not the screw. It looks fine.

If it's part of the receiver then I think your only options are to put a helicoil in it, or drill a bigger hole and re-tap it. I'm not very familiar with the older mini's.

Of all the Mini's out there it is likely someone else has had the same problem. You might want to take it to a gunsmith. They deal with problems like that all the time.
