ruger mini 14-That Bad??

Only shot my buddies ranch rifle with 4x Leupold. Win. ball ammo was about 2 min. or minute of beer can. Functioned perfectly. You could always do what I did and get a Norc. 305. Sub 2" with ball and 308. Always functions perfect.

I have to agree with Westicle (comparing SKS and mini) the price of SKS-D is starting to get pretty high and NON -CORROSIVE FACTORY AMMO IS CONSIDERABLY cheaper for the MINI
As an aside here in S ONT I can shoot critters with mini but not with SKS
And yes I have owned both

Mini 14

If you are going to buy a Mini 14 don't buy one with a series number lower than 188. There were three barrel changes from 180 to 188. I have had the early ones and they weren't good shooters. I had a 187 and 188 series at the same time and their accuracy was like day and night. The 188 shot better than the 187. I was told by a Ruger rep that the barrels were changed sometime through the 187 series. I would get another one in a minute, and it would have to be a stainless ranch model.

Overlooked the mini-14 for a laminate stock, varmit model 77 in .223. Glad I did, the bolt action is WAY more fun. I like actually hitting what I am aiming for.

albayo,

Thank you for this...very helpful indeed! :)

Best wishes, Jeff/1911.

The Mini 14 Ranch Rifle I owned was an MODP rifle -- Minute of Dinner Plate. If it put 5 rounds into a group less than 10 inches it was having a good day.

In its defence it always went bang when I managed my way through the 8 lb. trigger. All I had to do was overlook the dings in my nice Leupold 2.5x as the brass came flying out.

I liked shooting Norinco 5.56 in my Mini. With the Norinco not only did my rifle shoot like crap, it smelled like it too.

HA HA Ha made in America for us little Americans!!

I have 29 inch legs and 36 inch arms,and am only 5'11!

There are two really happy days in your gun purchasing life, and that would be day one when you buy your Mini-14!

And day two when you finnaly unload it(just don't sell it to a friend)!

why is that?

Generally I find it annoying when somebody is blazing away blasting brass cases all over the range when I am trying to shoot. They are the same as an SKS. I understand they have the right to do it, it just irritates me so I go home.
