Wondering if the Ruger Mini-14 is a non-restricted or restricted rifle? I see the come as a 5 round gun or a 20 round gun. Can a 20 rounder be a 5 rounder with a the right mag or are the one or the other? How are these guns accuracy and reliability wise? What can I expect to pay for one here in Canada? Thanks

The only mags available are five rounders wether pinned or factory capacity, Mini 14's are Non-Restricted so long as the barrel is loner than 18 inches. New expect to pay 750 to 900 used about the same as people haven't realised that most things depreciate over time. Accuracy wise I've heard 4 inches at 100 to as little as 1 for the newer ones. Never heard of one conking out.

The ruger mini-14 is non-restricted. As far as I know they all come as 5 rounders. Accuracy I have heard mixed results, the good results coming from handloads.

Hope this helps

They're reliable with factory magazines. They're not accurate - if compared to almost anything else with rifling.

You can expect sks accuracy in a rifle that costs twice to three times as much.
They are pretty simple in design and are quite durable, their spagetti barrels tend to over heat quickly however and they start shooting quite inaccurately and inconsistently.

One of the good things is that it looks really ###y and almost always goes bang, with quite a loud report i might add.

Great, this is the info I was after, I didnt know that this was what seperated a non restricted to a restricted rifle. Thanks

You still seem to be a bit confused, all semiauto rifles are limited to 5 round mags whether restricted or nonrestricted. The mini 14 is non restricted, the AR15 is restricted, neither can legally have more than 5 rounds in a mag, hope this helps clear it up for you.

Unless of course you have the 10 round pistol mags for the AR. Those are legal. And a lot more fun. . .

The 20 round mini in the States is a special rifle they made for the NRA ILA. It has now been discontinued but Ruger is now selling the 20 round mags for all minis. Of course that doesn't mean much here.
