I had a RRA AR 15 in 6.8 SPC, and at first I liked the caliber very much. I liked it enough to seriously consider picking up one of the 6.8 SPC Ruger minis. I've had dozens of mini 14s, and a half dozen or so mini 30s, so I know a bit about the OLD minis. I liked the look and feel of the NEW 6.8 model I handled. I came SO close to buying one.
Then I did the math on the costs VS an AR 10/Rem R25, and a shorty NORC M14 in .308 Winchester. The 6.8 ammo costs MORE, and is way harder to find than .308 Win ammo. And the 6.8 SPC Ruger mini costs WAY more than an M14, even an M14 shorty.
While I still think the 6.8 SPC cartridge is a great caliber, until it gets more maturity and more support here in Canuckistan, I will stay with the more powerful, much more common .308 Win [ which I could reload DOWN to 6.8 ballistic equivalent if I wanted to ].
BTDT,
went back to .308 Win.
