How does one get the hammer to rotate forward? Its not going forward enough and when you rotate the mainspring lever downward the locking pin backs out. I can not seem to get the hammer to tip forward to the (non cocked) position. Yes, i have taken a mallet and punch to try to get it forward. Anyone have this experience? Fixes??
Thanks

I followed the video on Ruger's website about reassembling the MKIII... for me the "secret" of getting it back together and functioning was the part about getting the hammer in the correct position by pointing the pistol down and pulling the trigger a few times. I seldom have any issues taking the pistol apart and putting it back together if I follow the steps in the video.

Do you have an empty mag inserted when you pull the trigger? Mag safety won't allow hammer to fall fully without one on MKIII, unlike the MKII. Or the hammer strut sometimes hangs up on the frame. You should be able to poke the hammer forward easily while pulling trigger.

thats not the case. I have pulled the trigger mag inserted. Pointed it down, even bang the barrel on a hard surfaceto get the hammer to rotate forward.. Still no go..

Did you have all apart?, if so start again , and don't use a hammer, unless you had the top off the grip and it is real tight.
You are checking the hammer strut?, that is what has to be in the right place, sounds like it is the problem to me.

I'm bad with part names so I might not be fully getting your situation but usually I pull the trigger down and grab something like a small screw driver or anything pointy and just push the hammer into position.

This, I use my pinky finger most the the time, if you still have the mag Safety insert pull trigger and hold and use a little screw driver or your finger and just push forward.

Minor point-- To get the hammer to rotate all the way forward, There must be an empty mag to trip the mag disconnect, point the muzzle down, *PUSH THE BOLT INTO BATTERY* and pull the trigger.

Seems like naturally, they like to sit with the bolt just ever so slightly out of battery, tripping the OOB disconnect. (If it thinks it's out of battery, it won't release the hammer.)

Usually, if you have the mag in, trigger pressed, and the bolt all the way home, just gravity will let the hammer fall. I usually poke it with a toothpick, stir-stick, whatever is handy if it won't.
