So I'm looking at getting a Mk III and I'm sort of torn on which way I want to go with it. Mostly I guess what I'm wondering is on handguns how much difference is there between a tapered/bull/fluted/slab barrel? Is there actually an accuracy differential on this short of a barrel or is it strictly a weight/balance thing?

I have bull barrel 22/45 mk3 and I think it's just aesthetics.
Barrel never gets hot even after 20 rapid fire and accuracy is barely on par with my gsg1911(I have 5 inch model with red dot, could be the ####ty dot)

But I think flutted hunter models look the best so. ... Get that one. :)

Shooting with open sights a longer barrel should have a slight advantage, but with optics they should shoot the same. My wife has the Hunter model, it works very well :)

One of each

I did a comparison and found all pretty much the same. The one thing I did not like was the rear sight on the Hunter and changed it to the target blade for about $10.

Should have mentioned that also, I changed the rear blade and swapped the front sight out for a competition model front sight.
