Ruger MK1-2 mags

I have a question for the Ruger guys and girls out there,
I got a ruger MK1 target on a trade and tested it at the range one night,
and a fellow with a MK 11 tried his mags in and it worked fine.
I always thought 1 and 2 mags where different, or is it 1 and 2 are different than MK3
I know the mk1 is 9 shot and the MK11 is 10 shot and no hold open on the MK1
The one I have has the small button on the left, could be used from ether side.

Early mk1 mags had the button on the opposite side but you could change the button on most mags to fit. Mk3 mags have a notch for the mag release behind the trigger...they will work in earlier guns but early mags won't lock in a mk3.

You can also grind off the mag catch lip and change the button side on a mk3 mag and it works perfectly in a mk 1, just can't use it in a mk3 anymore
