Hi all,
I've got a Ruger Mk3 that is giving me a very hard time with disassembly - I can't get the mainspring assembly out and to make things worse, I've now managed to pull it out a little and can't get it back in. I've tried a rubber mallet and the little 'nub' is now too low to further mallet. As for putting it back in, the whole things is stuck halfway out.

Any ideas?

Otherwise, any GTA gunsmith suggestions?

I had mine stuck like that once. Got it out by pulling down very hard with a jerking motion. Had to try a number of times. I don't think trying to put it back in is a good option. I don't know if you have the adjustable rear sight, but if you do be careful with that mallet. Better to hit your thumb than to break the sight blade which is easy to do.

Mine was very hard to dissasemble the first time too. You can find very useful video on youtube. Good luck.

I've tried it all!

Step 5 is where I am stuck. I can't pull it out (or put it back in at this point...it's stuck halfway)

I've ensured the hammer is uncocked before beginning and both safeties are off.

The first time I did mine I too thought it was stuck, it's just in there really really good. Wiggle it back and forth while pulling on it, if that doesn't work get out a punch and a hammer and punch it out from the top of the reciever. I believe I had to do this the first time to get it out, getting it in when it's tight is just that much harder.

Is this a new gun? I know they are quite stiff when disassembled the first few times.

You're just going to have to work it back in and out a bit to try and loosen it up. WD40 or some other lube that seeps into small tight tolerance spaces might help. Hoepfully you can work it back in enuff to rubber hammer it again a few times to get it loose.

Once you get it apart, it should get easier each time you do it.

just go to a hobby shop and get a length of hardwood dowel that will fit in the "nubbin" hole; cut it to length; put the frame (sans grips) in a padded vice, and go at it with a hammer--it'll go... (oh, and tape up the top of the receiver, in case you miss ;))
