What is the heaviest grain bullet suggested for this calibre/model rifle?

What have you personally shot thru this rifle for grain/distance?

I'm looking at possibly purchasing one of these rifles as I like the .223 calibre and also it's stainless and won't rust as it'll be used in our harsh conditions here up north out on the sea-ice, on the boat, on the tundra. Thanks for any help my fellow CGNer's,

The savage .223 is 1-9 twist and uses the most available ammo in 55 -60 gr. I shoot one of these at 1000 yards and am quite pleased at the result.10-4 on the stainless...would not have it any other way...savage or ruger...
 
Sorry but I forgot to add that I have tried to get heavier ammo but it is only available in the USA and we cannot get it here unless you try to get the carts and reload your own...
 
1:12 twist should do up to 60 grain no prob. If you're gonna use it to hunt anything weighing more than 80 lbs, use a 53 grain Triple Shock or 60 grain Partition.
 
The 70gr Speer is a semi-spitzer so the OAL is fairly short. Shorter bullets are easier to stabilize than longer ones of same weight.

I've got a 22/250 (1:14") that will shoot them into one inch.

i have the ruger in .223 and stainless and i really like it. i've only shot 45's and 55's out of it but i have some 60's for it. i've only shot it out to 300 yards and i got a 4" 5 shot group with factory ammo.

is it going to be your new seal gun?
 
Thanks for the replies my fellow CGNer's ... I was just curious about grain and twist ... I'm purdy positive I'mgonna get one for myself andmy gal-pal Silu as they're lightweight, stainless so they don't rust and good enough to shoot most animals up here ... and well if I go outland on my skidoo it won't kill my back. This is a good gun, I just bought one. I shot 55 grain fmj ammo (USA Accurate Ammo) at 200 yards, and a six shot group was 1.25". Didn't have time to try at 300. And it was getting ridiculously windy. The wind was dragging the group 1.5" off centre at 200 yards.
