Ruger N0 1 banned?

I have a couple thumpers than I was worried might be on the block due to muzzle energy but to my surprise the 9.3x74r is under 5,000J and the .450 N.E. is under 7,000J.

If that 9.3x74r becomes too worrisome for you let me know : ) That is definitely one of the No.1's towards the top of my list to buy.

How are these Rugers for accuracy?

I kinda like the looks of them and was thinking of getting one in a varmint caliber.

I have 10 #1,s and they are all at least 1 moa rifles, and my 25-06 is .5 moa perfectly acceptable for hunting rifles, but In the long run I don't believe the #1 platform could ever beat the bolt gun design for ultimate accuracy.

A friend of mine bought what I think was the first 6mm Remington in a No. 1 that came to Canada. I was working at Barotto Sports in Calgary at that time. It had a horrendous chamber, so large he had to use a neck sizing die for full length sizing... and the throat so long you could seat a flat base 100 grain bullet just an eighth of an inch into the case... after all the bedding, free floating, etc... he could get some inch groups out of it but it best feature was it was pretty...

I would never buy a Ruger No. 1 expecting great accuracy, easier to achieve with a bolt action... (dare I say it?) Remington lol

Have to agree. I've owned a lot of Remingtons, and more than a few No 1's. Rems, on an average, were much more accurate than the Rugers. - dan

you can reach way more in your n1 with 9.3x74r but the brass wont last ... very easy to reach the 5400j of namibia or 5300j limitation of zimbabwe but i doubt you will get more than 3 reload with it.

But the river no1 are accurate enough to 400m for hunting purposes, all the ones I had were all around moa, maybe 1.25 maybe 0.80 but all good enough for hunting purpose at “normal” hunting range!

Had a 22-250 varmint to start with, about 35yrs ago or so, killed a pile of gophers with that one. Had one that was modified with a Canjar set trigger and set up as a Schuetzen rifle in 32-30Rem. Had a 450-400NE in one, had a lot of fun with that, versatile cartridge, 200-400gr bullets, shot cast just fine in it. Have a 7-08 at present. I cringe at the price of them these days, used to be affordable to buy one and rebarrel it to cartridge of choice, not anymore. And with them only being made in cherry picked cartridges in limited runs, not likely to come back down in price.
