My wife just bought a pair of Ruger New Model Blackhawks in .44 Spl.
Anyone got any experience with these little cuties?
They're built on the old .357 frame. Back when the late Skeeter Skelton was gun writing, it was a frequent conversion to rebore and ream out the cylinders of .357 Blackhawks to .44 Spl.
I've read that Ruger considered .44s and .45s at the time the .357 Blackhawk came out, but wasn't satisfied with the then current metallurgy.
So, he came out with the larger framed .44 Magnum and Super Blackhawk.
