Thought I'd share a few pics of my 219 Zipper project, bought a 300wm off the EE for a donor rifle, new barrel, wood, reamer, built a barrel vice and went to work, Have had lots of help from Black Jack on here, still have to install the quarter rib and cut the throat in the chamber, I'll post more pic's as I go.

Worked on the Ruger a little today, everything went good till the last hole and I broke the tap in the hole!!!!!, My buddy that's been kind to let me use his mill is going to get a carbide drill bit for me tomorrow so I can drill it out, next ill have to figure out what I'm going to use for wood, and still need to get the receiver reblued.

I was wondering how the project was going, thanks for the update.
Sucks about the broken tap, I've had more success with diamond burrs than with carbide drills/endmills when trying to drill them out. Good luck

Its going slow, this is my first rebarrel and as you know the No.1 has a lot of extra work to be done in a rebarrel, was a little pissed at my self when I bottomed out the tap and broke it....oh well live and learn, I found the bolt a little tight to close so I pulled the barrel this week and took a hair off, now it closes nice like it should, zipper brass is a pain to form from 30-30, its tight just above the rim so I have been playing around with brass, I still need to buy a 22cal throat reamer and cut the throat as the chamber reamer I had was a body reamer only.

My buddy just sent me a pic, he got the broken tap out and saved the threads, I'm pretty happy about that, Guess I'll pull it all apart and take the action to GunCo in Ottawa and have it reblued and start to work on the wood.

Where you getting your ammo? I am considering 219 in a Encore barrel but i can't find 7-30 let alone 219.

I have an encore barrel in 219 zipper improved, Jason at gunco in Ottawa rechambered it for me from 223 barrel, bad thing is the reamer broke with only a couple of though left to cut, theres a small mark in the sholder of the fired brass but I can live with that, I run 30-30 brass through a 32-40 die then 25-35, trim the brass but leave it a little long and then run it through the 219 zipper die and fire form with cream of wheat and then trim to length, the brass will shrink a little upon fire forming, I have only used fired brass from the many-many 30-30 cases I have and lots of the shoulders crack when fire forming even when annealed I should try some new brass some day, I find Winchester has been the best for this so far, lots of the other brands are to thick at the base and when sizing to 219 zipper I get a wrinkle in the brass about 1/16 -1/8 above the rim, on a side note I find the chamber tight in the 219 zipper I have just built and even tried putting my brass in the lathe and running a file towards the rim to take a little off, I spoke to Ron Smith about this and he told me to try something, if it works ill post it, that man has an unbelievable amount of knowledge and tricks up his sleeve.
