Ruger No.1 ?

i have one, my first gun. i love it
with the Hicks accurizer Moyers trigger and hammer its an amazing shooter trigger way under 2lbs and breaks like a glass rod. she will cloverleaf at 200yds on a cold barrel. the gun is really short. a 26 barrel ruger is shorter than a 22 barrel bolt action, and weight is further back in rifle making recoil much more manageable than bolts. my 7mm is near recoiless, on par with my 30-30.
my only 2 beefs are
1 the safety blocks ejecting shell when hunting ,slowing followup shots as shell sits blocking loading port unless you tilt rifle. this makes filling 2 tags in one morning quite difficult
2- its well over 11lbs with scope rings sling and 6 rounds on buttstock and makes it a pig to carry on 2 or 3 hour walks.although the weight does eliminate recoil and make off hand shooting much easier

Have 3. First a 1T in 375 H+H, then a RSI in 243 and last year a 1A in 303. I've shot the 375 the most and the only issue is the empty's hit the safety and staying there. Great at the range, but not when a buck's on the run. The RSI came with an extension (maybe not the right name) ring so the scope is farther back. I don't shoot them much only because I'm more into pistols, more Rugers , than rifles right now

Just pulled the trigger on this one in .257 roberts. I'll let you know how it shoots when I'm able to take it to the range.

I gave in a little while back to this #1 in 375 Ruger. One of those "just have to have it" purchases. Don't think of selling it any time soon. Definitely not a caliber for a day at the range.

I got a chance to check a few out at the range about a month ago. The fit and finish is very nice, and being a Ruger, it's built like a tank. Great rifle IMO.

The international is one of the classiest low cost rifles on the market, the Varminter I'd owned and I would go for the RSI for sure if shopping for a No.1. Many makers make pretty, good varmint rifles, that will likely outshoot the Ruger No.1V. Nobody makes a classy little single shot carbine package like the RSI. I just wish I could find one of the rare few No.1 RSI 7x57's in Stainless / Walnut, they were made just very rare.

i could not agree more - even folk like me can get one with a little prudent stashing of coinage. i got one in 270. feels good, looks good, shoots alright too after i found the magic load combo. I want a 7 x57 like the one that KMD has next. I wonder how one would get one in the old 6.5 x54 mannlicher schoenauer caliber?? seems like a natural fit to me

I like the #1As the best of all #1s. I've had a couple over the years, the last being a 303 that I sold to help pay for a Yukon hunt last year. Currently have a 1A coming in boring old 30/06. I think I'll keep this one.

I have had a Ruger No1 in 7 X 57 for years its the AB model.
I dislike the iron sights, and the fore stock on the sporter.
My only complaint is getting up to the scope, as I am vertically challenged 5' 5". I had to buy two sets offset scope ring just get reasonably close. I found an Bausch & Lomb Elite 3000, 1.5 - 4.5 X 32 that has partially cured the problem.
I have put it up for sale a few time for that reason, I just don't want to cut the stock. It would be a great fit for a taller shooter.

This is what I have been using for the past few seasons.
A Remington 700 BDL in 7-08, it fits, its lite, and its a 7mm.

there is an adjustment to cure this, you know? you can have it eject almost back to your truck at the bush entrance! it's just set there to catch your spent brass!

I'm with you, just bought a 1A in .250 Savage, stainless/walnut. I've been hunting with a .375 H&H as my only hunting rifle for awhile and it needed a sidekick in a small bore suitable for wolves to whitetail. Will also be nice in the mountains.

Ive had quite a few #1s in calibers up to the 460wby,I love the #1s but being only 5'5" they don't love me back.I'm still trying to get them to fit me better,ext rings help I might have to start shortening the L.O.P. they are very classy rifles for sure. a number 1 in 470turnbull would be awsome

I have and have had some #1s and would recommend them to anyone, i don't know if the EA Brown gun is rated for the pressure levels of the Ruger. A current #1 Int'l. in 30-06 of mine, is as accurate as any lightweight boltgun I've tried.

Ruger number 1 rocks. I took my 35 Whelen for deer this year instead of my usual M14. It sure is light! No deer but it was a a pleasure carrying it through the brush.
