Hi.I just bought a ruger no.1 in 300 win mag from a fellow cgner.(beautiful rifle by the way).I want to know what bases to use for a scope mount. The base mount holes are inline instead of side by side.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Rugers are shipped with factory Ruger mounts. Leupold also makes them.

Wait...I see you mention holes. I can't recall any of the No.1s I've owned in the past being drilled and tapped. Perhaps it was done by a gunsmith; either that or my memory is going.

Hey Idemeo, just regular ruger rings will do. That gun hasn't been tampered with, I think the 'holes' he speaks of are the ring recoil lugs. Some rugers require diff height rings and some require the same height. No 1s require same height rings. The ones that came with that rifle were buggered up and unusable.

You can also remove the rail and install a NEAR mfg picatinny rail I just did that on mine and its a way better system for solid mounts.

I heard rumor he was working on a No. 1 base. Didn't know it was in production. How much may I ask? He doesn't have it on his website.

Near rings and bases are top of the line, however I wouldn't worry about the factory base and ruger rings holding a .300 Win, they are also a very solid setup. A .300 WM is a pea shooter compared to some other cartridges that Ruger No. 1s come in.

He built a prototype for my buddies #1 in .458 Lott a few years back. I ordered mine last year, I paid whatever his bases normally cost, $175 I believe.
