Ruger no1 triggers

Well the stock #1 triggers can be heavy so don't think that I'm trying to disuade you from either having it worked on or swapping it out. My comment was solely a cold finger and lack of sensation warning. Still, a nice crisp 4lb trigger would go a long way toward better performance and overall satisfaction. But a super-light one might be frustrating.

Yeah I hear you! I think the thing to do is get the rifle here and start playing around with it and see how she feels like!!
Thank you

So did the water jug test and my RSI breaks just under 5lbs.... my BAR at 5lbs and my M77 mkII(trying to sell that one) a bit heavier but under 6lbs... so none of them are light trigger by a long stretch... so I think 3.5 would be a big improvement!!
Still eating for the no1 9.3x62 to show up and after testing it out and playing with it I will make a decision, but I don’t think I would go lighter than 3.5 lbs!

Don't get too worried about what the number actually is - what it feels like to you is way more important!! Some guys will think a 5 pound trigger pull is just fine, until they measure it and read a number - had heard should be 4 or 3 1/2 and will then want to change it - it's just a number - how it feels and works for you when you are shooting at game is more important!! May or may not have anything to do with what is preferred for shooting off a bench and sandbags at a paper target.

Often, when trigger pill is "lightened" is done by reducing the amount of engagement between a trigger and sear, or sear and striker, or honing and inadvertently changing a critical angle, and/or cutting coils off a sear return spring. Learn what is a "bump test" and do it - make sure to yourself that your trigger is going to hold, until you trip it - do not want your rifle going off when you did not expect it to!!!

Some trigger designs have relatively clear "pull" settings - Kuhnhausen's Shop Manual (for Mauser rifles), page 97, says military mauser two stage triggers should not be set less than 4 pounds; Mark X Mauser triggers should not be set less than 3 1/2 pounds." He goes on, "A safe trigger is defined as one with a pull within the standard 3 1/2 to 5 pound range in an action that does not slam fire, impact fire or safety-off fire." All kinds of people claim to get much lighter than that with the mauser triggers - they are outside the design parameters - better to get a different commercial trigger made for that lighter range of pull, than trying to McGyver the original into something that it is not.

For sure and I totally agree!! I never had a problem taking games with the trigger I have on the different rifles I use, I just wanted to have something a bit more “fine”....

I wouldn’t modify anything my self or to the stock trigger, I was more interested to an after market trigger kit and I think the only one available for Ruger no1 is the one made by Jard that comes in set weight of 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 and maybe 4 lbs!! They say the break cleaner and are crispier than stock triggers!

Jard site says they ship international, would be an extra 47.50 on top of the 120. I sent email to ask about Canada as I may do the trigger in my 257 wby #1

If you could post what they say here it would be really appreciated!!
What I don’t understand is why they only ship one trigger at the time and why can’t they combine orders!!!

My guess is dealing with CBSA, there’s some funny laws out there, I can’t find anyone in the US to send me a Marlin big loop, got lucky and found one that would ship safety delete but all in all I think it’s too much trouble for most to deal with.

I'll have to go with keep the stock trigger and learn it. I have a Ruger No1 that shoots perfectly. You spent enough on firearms, ammo, and hunting equipment. So go buy a few boxes and shoot for a while. Maybe wear gloves if you think you'll be hunting in the cold. Or get snap caps. You will not wear out the rifle learning it. Muscle memory is an amazing thing. I had a buddy the got his 338wm set super light. Up north on a hunting trip in the cold with gloves on he got ready to aim and bang, bye bye moose. They run fast for a big animal. Depends what you really do with the rifle. On the bench all day or real world.

Yeah I’m more real world lol. It is really similar to my other no1 so that is a foot thing!

I have had an awful lot of No.1's, of the many dozens, I have only had a couple that were too heavy for hunting. My current threesome of No.1's had excellent triggers right out of the box... if anything, two of them are a tad light for my taste... at least for hunting rifles, and let's face it, that's what No.1's are, a refined hunting platform. The light"ish" triggers do make it easier to shoot accurately with consistency. For what you are looking for, I would pay a good Smith to touch up the factory trigger (a tad) before I would shell out for an aftermarket trigger.

Yeah I think I will keep it the way it is for now at least!! Maybe one day you sell your RSI 7x57 and you then tell me and I buy it from you....

I finally got a reply when I sent email to Jard asking if they shipped to Canada, got a “yes”
