Ruger Not So Precision Rifle

Well, checked the headspacing and I was correct. It would barely, with force close on the go gauge. Took it all apart and reset it so it closes easily on the go gauge, but will not close on the no-go.
Hopefully get to the range tomorrow to try it out. Hopefully with better results.

My 6.5 was dead nutz accurate after I did a FULL tear down and tightened up everything to spec. *With a torque driver*

The ammo would give me a fly'er every once in a while.

Had a TON of personal opinion issues with the rifle (and the butt stock broke) and ended up selling... In my eyes, not worth the money for the tacticool.

Got a Remington SPS tactical, dropped it in a Magpul stock (not ideal, but didn't want to spend for a McMillan) and that rifle is possibly the best shooting rifle I have ever owned. With a nice Bushnell Elite 10x fixed ontop. The price of the entire "build' was that of a RPR and it had MANY MANY more attributes I prefer.

Buddy has one in 6.5 and it shoots great so far. What is the twist rate on the 243 , as someone mentioned earlier if it is a 1-8 you might want to try a heavier bullet also any of the 4350 powders always worked great in my 243"s with heavier bullets(105 Bergers).

Hey there CanadianKeeper would you mind elaborating on the attributes you find preferable?

As a shooter looking to get into the long range game I'm curious as to what you mean and am hoping it will offer me some insights into choosing a rifle (because right now I'm thinking of buying either the Remington with Magpul stock/detachable mag. or the RPR).

Hope I'm not getting to far off topic, but has anybody swapped out barrels on their RPR and if so what brand, spec. did you go for and with what results?

Just ALOT of small things.

I would take my remmy over the RPR any day.

For ease of maitnence, amount of things that can go wrong and or break/become loose.
 
Well,
Got a quick trip to the range today. Though not totally convinced, I am feeling better about this rifle.
Had a couple of different loads that shot well under an inch. Still seems to show mystery flier shots though. It'll pack 3-4 of 5 shots touching but always at least one of the 5 will step out of the group.
Today though, I think I can contribute at least a few of the fliers to shooting of a bipod for basically the first time for groups. I know my technique isn't nearly as refined as I am off a solid rest or sandbags.

I'll try a few more trips to the range and some more loads before writing this barrel off.
