Well everyone on this site knows you speak from experience! I also guided for a living(St.Lawrence Outfitters) for 15 years and have shot competitively with pistols,bows,shotguns and all forms of rifle. You can only sit silent for so long .Sorry

The original post mentions Ruger rings, but is specifically about mounting height.
I never said competive shooter, I said competent shooter.
I'd bet on the 3-9x40 scope being the most sold scope, and medium rings to hold it.
Go back and read my posts, where I specifically state, having the centerline of the scope as close to tge bore axis is ALWAYS the goal.

You must be a solo competitive shooter as I doubt anyone could stand to be in a group hunt more than an hour.

Yes, with a caveat...
Euro folks roll with high optics like that, some times higher, driven hunts... they find it quicker to shoulder, aim, fire, on moving game, usually low power optics and relatively close shots.
I don't have that luxury, so that style doesn't hit home with me either. All my scopes are mounted low/tight, I slam that butt into my shoulder and mash my face (gently of course) into the cheek piece and that's how I mount scopes for hunting.
I make it hard for me to screw it up, or easy for me to succeed, glass half full or empty #### lol, I don't shoot at running game through, me thing only, not judgy, I know my limits and I'm patient as ####, I'll get a clean look next day, or week, or next year...
