I'm on the fence, I found a Ruger American, Go wild Camo, Bronze Cerakote 16' barrel, Or a Tikka T3x 22' or maybe the CTR 20'. The gun will be mainly used for deer and a little target fun. Will be 6.5 CM. Im ok with the caliber, I just wanted to know if anyone has experience with a 16' barrel for these purposes? Seems a little short but I like the though of the compact. Most likely won't be shooting more then 250-300 yards. Does anyone have experience with Ruger in this configuration or the Tikka CTR, Any help would be appreciated before I order, Being Covid I can't really go handle them and see what feels better.

The American is inferior to the M77 line, a more fair comparison is the M77 vs Tikka T3... if the American is the only consideration, I would go with the Tikka, but I would go with the M77 over the T3.

the current line of hawkeyes from ruger are VERY hit and miss quality wise....had a good one and had a VERY bad one...ruger has dropped way down in my opinion and I used to be a real fan...

Between Ruger American vs Tikka T3, I'd go with the Tikka.

NAA.

Agreed. I have owned both- and been around multiples of both- and like them both for what they are and cost. All have shot extremely well, but the edge goes to Tikka for better stock and mags. Especially before Ruger switched the RAR to AI mags.

I don't agree... I prefer the Mark II's personally for the finish as I really do not like the current matte finishes being used, but Ruger has to large degree adopted a model of specific order runs from large distributors. Lipsey's, Talo, Davidson's etc... would not tolerate shoddy craftsmanship and since they are LARGE purchasers, as opposed to the individual buyer models of most other companies, Ruger toes the line... an excellent check and balance for consumers. Even large production cataloged models have a low incident rate. Of course any manufacturer can have a lemon slip through production and QC. Having said that, I would say that Tikka quality is also very good.

I’d take a new tikka over any other new push feed in that price range except a model 7 Remington.

I’d take a used m77 mkII at ~750 bucks over either.

the mk2 ruger 77 is not the same gun as the hawkeye....I thought so at one time but have found out different....
