Ruger P345 - any personal experiences..?

Or Ruger KP-345PR, which I think is just the model # for the version with the S/S slide...

I've been looking around at the different makes/models that catch-my-eye, and this is one of them...

But as for reviews, both here & Youtube, I've come up with almost nothing worth while... (NutnFancy did the P90 or SR9, but not this)

So has anyone here owned/shot one, and what are your opinions of the gun..?

I love most of what it has to offer, but not sure on the "de-cocker only" though...

* There is one on EE for sale, but figure the review from a seller would be biased...

I've owned the Safety+Decocker version and that was the only thing I disliked about it.

Otherwise, the pistol is great. It's built like a tank. I was shooting hot .45 Super through it and it ran superbly. It was accurate... I loved it actually, aside from the safety of course. I sold it because of the safety.

The safety:

Basically it felt cheap and poorly designed. Why? You could engage the safety and if you squeezed the trigger hard enough repeatedly, the hammer would still drop after several attempts. I know this isn't normal usage, but a hammer should never drop if the safety is designed to prevent it from dropping. You could also put the safety "ON" and pull the hammer rearward, manually, then let it drop and defeat the safety. Note: The firing pin does remain blocked in both scenarios, so there never is any chance of a round going off. However, it's a sloppy design and I don't like sloppy.

I'd definitely buy a 'Decock-Only' model; Get it since they are not made anymore.
 
i've had one for a while....good honest pistol....nuthin fancy.....and a bargain....much less blocky than the previous p-90 ruger auto I owned....
 
I bought one for my girlfriend at the time, because she liked the ergonomics of it and wanted to come shooting with me (using her own pistol) when I took my HK USP and Beretta 96 out to the range.

I thought it was a terrible pistol compared to the HK and Beretta, but it did cost about half of the HK and 2/3 of the Beretta - so, all in all, I'd say it was an example of good value for the money.

I hated the magazine safety and the safety/decocker mechanism. The trigger was GARBAGE. Absolute, unequivocal GARBAGE.

But, again, pretty good value for money and it handled even the hottest .45 loads well. A few misfeeds and stovepipes for both her and I every 100 rounds or so with the Ruger, when my HK ran over 2,000 rounds before its first malfunction (due to my error in making an out-of-spec round which didn't chamber properly).

Easy to clean, easy to disassemble/reassemble, very low-maintenance when compared to something like an ultra-tight 1911.

It's a fun gun, but I would never buy another one simply because of that GARBAGE trigger. The balance with a full mag is very, very nice though - something one can't really overstate when comparing it to some of the other poorly-balanced rigs out there...

I shot a SR9 side by side with a Glock 17 and have a M&P9. The triggers on all of them were about the same. Ya, they are not the same as my 1911 but I can't say they are horrible. Just different. I love the ergo's of the Rugers and would buy one in a second.

I picked one up in a trade and traded it off pretty quick. The gun just was not for me. I liked the ergonomics of it and it was super reliable. I didn't like the magazine safety and while the trigger pull on mine in SA was pretty decent is was long and heavy in DA. The gun is a pretty good bang for the buck, certainly for a .45. If you have the money I'd spend it on something a little more refined.
 
Over 10k through one - still my favorite. I have both - decock is better. Take the mag safety out - smooth the trigger a little and enjoy the recoil of a light-weight gun.

If someone knows of a better stainless, composite. single stack, double action, hammer .45 that is as slim and tidy and light - please tell me.

I found the trigger to be massively inferior in both modes compared to any other SA/DA polymer pistol I had shot.

But, again, FOR THE MONEY, it was pretty okay value.

I just got mine. Have fired it only once (about 100 rnds). It is great and for me even better that its got a small handle. Its possible that I like it better than my Sig, but maybe I just have to put through more rnds to find out.
