Ruger P345 shyt or Sig quality?

I’ve recently purchased a Ruger KP345PR and have shot only 550 rounds so far.

I bought the gun having heard nothing but good things about Ruger pistols being built like brick shyt houses. Upon further research, after buying it, I've found that the P345 has problems due to the magazine safety.

The first 150 rounds I experienced 2 click-no-bangs and 2 FTFs. I then removed the magazine safety – easy to do. The last 400 rounds were flawless but I’m still a little jaded towards he gun.

What is highest round count through one of these out there?

I wish the TSE had one as a range gun – that would be a test.
 
Well, by all accounts of longer experiences, the 345 is typical to Ruger quality with a better trigger than the rest of the P series.

Ruger is known to have outstanding customer service should you need it.
 
I have shot about 400-500 rounds through mine without any kind of failures.
I used only factory ammunition and mostly did "normal" shooting - no IPSC or IDPA stuff.
 
I like ruger rimfire pistols, never been a fan of the centerfire pistol series. The 345 looks interesting, but then I'm not a poly frame fan either. I would like to try one out someday.
 
Ruger for single action......BlackHawks, Super BlackHawks, Vaquero's. Smith and Wesson for double action.

And, I am biased here, but IMHO you can't beat Glock for a polymer pistol.

Yeah, just for giggles I'd like to try out a new Ruger centerfire pistol. Maybe it can remove the sour taste left many years ago by that P90 .45ACP... :(
 
Can't be compared to a Sig, however, at less than half the price it's certainly good quality. I also removed the mag safety. Never had any problems with fireing or anything like that. I just found that the mags wouldn't drop free. The gun shoots great and goes bang every time. Its a great double action training gun for IDPA style shooting. I have several thousand rnds thru it and no problems sofar.
 
I love my P345. Thousand rounds through it and never even a hiccup. Would I trust my life on it? I would probably go with a Glock. Maybe a Springfield... but definitely a GLock. They recently put 60,000 rounds through a Glock and only had to change the springs at 50K apparently. Not a single misfeed or whatever. I think my P345 might do that too.
 
In the value for money category, the 345 is looking pretty good.
Handles well, seems pretty reliable, but not in the same 'neighbourhood' as a Sig.
Had one (345)...quite liked it, and if it's what I could afford, would be happy with it.
It all comes down to personal preference, taste, and budget.
Would I recommend it...absolutely.
 
I too have a KP345DPR and its great once you soften up the trigger pull a tad. The only time I experienced a FTF was due to reloads being loaded long and not allowing the slide to come fully into battery. With factory it functions 100%. The only initial problem I experienced was with it consistently grouping high even at 10m. I finally figured out that when the factory torqued the rear sight on, the set screw was so tight that it actually lifted the sight body up and away from the dovetail, barely hanging on. A call to Ruger and they are replacing the sight. I shimmed it as a temp fix and all is well. I have a set of FO Fire Sights I am mounting next week anyways, so its no big deal. Its a tuff little gun for sure and very easy to handle. My only complaint about it is the need to dry fire with mag in or risk breaking the firing pin(mag safety). Not enough of a concern to warrant removing the mag safety. Easy to shoot, easy to disassemble and lighter than a lot of others. Goodies for it are still a bit difficult to locate but as it gains in popularity the market will react.

But on the topic... I wonder when Ruger is going to come out with a 1911?

It'll probably be "investment cast" like their other centerfire pistols and be a single stack but thick as a double stack Para... :D

I happen to know that SF Operators have a major say in what they carry, through the R&D programs that are in place at the Unit level.

BTW, have you shot either of your Rugers for 5000 rounds without cleaning, taken them out of the freezer after being soaked in water and fired them, thrown them loaded onto hard concrete and fired them, dropped them into a mud pit and fired them?

Politics has no place in CT units, except to provide funding.:p

You need to take better care of your guns:D Guns other than SIGs have also gone thru torture tests with amazing results. Dont believe everything you read without considering the source. SIGs are indeed excellent weapons but that wasnt the original question. Indeed comparing Ruger to SIG is like looking at Ferrarri vs GM(still above Hyundai but losing ground fast). For the money the Ruger is an outstanding weapon. If you can afford double the money, buy a SIG. Oh and dont bother with the "you only get what you pay for" song. You get what you can afford and what suits you best.

I think Ruger is very good at what it intended to do....that is bring quality firearms at a reasonable price and be dependable. The 345 is a practical pistol that works very well as a CCW pistol because it is thin, small framed, carries decent number of 45acp, works on the ethos of use and forget-about-it......and is cheaper than a week's worth of steak and ribs in TX.

I didn't read this stuff. I was part of the testing. I am a true believer in the Sig pistol.

Don't get me wrong. I like Rugers products and for the price, their semiautos are G2G, while their wheel guns are outstanding (own a GP100 4" .357 and a scoped Super Redhawk 7 1/2 " 44 Mag). Christ, I even owned a P89D in 9mm at one time, but found it too bulky and sold it to Gunman from Quebec.

I just said you can't really compare a Ruger semi auto to a Sig. And speaking of good price, the new PT24/7 Taurus's that are out are very reasonably priced and nicer to carry, again, speaking from experience.
