ruger paddle / hawkeye same bolt

guys possibly silly Q, but can the bolts be interchangable from M77 with the paddle stock, to the Hawkeye model M77????

i see alot of guns just got uploaded in aus for sale with no bolts............ just wondering if theres a possibility :)

i have the ruger hawkeye 35 whelen.........
i see a paddle stock for $500...... no bolt.

will it work?
 
The MKII and the Hawkeye have the same bolt. But I would check the headspace before use.

Still don't understand how people lose so many bolts.

Thanks, this is what i had heard also-

yeah man its wack?? there was half a dozen with no bolts, an a dozen complete.... scoped an all.

every single one is a paddle..

I would be with this guy!! Might work, but will want to check head space and perhaps rear of bolt lug engagement / bearing to the lug seat. Is multiple Swede Mauser rifles here - perhaps made 100 years ago - I have swapped multiple bolts - seem to all work out "close enough" - if they could do so, that long ago, no reason could not be done today - but I guess would have to "want" to do so - not sure if Ruger did that or not? But, pretty much if like at least 25% to 50% bearing on each bolt lug, and passes head space gauging, should be good to go, I would think - always open to correction, though!!
 
The Ruger M77 MKII are for the most part the same rifle as the Hawkeye. The only differences I know of are a newer upgraded trigger, slimmer stock and SS bolts in all the rifles.

Just for fun I pulled a bolt out of a MKII in 300 win and tried it in my Hawkeye 264 win. With my guages that check the belt. It was close enough. I would be willing to bet that the magnums headspace closer than the non magnums.
 
I doubt Ruger sells bolts to just anyone. They may list them as an item available for factory technicians or certified repair gunsmiths only. An inquiry to their service department should answer that question. The only way to know for sure if a new bolt fits properly is with a set of gunsmith "go" and "no go" headspace gauges. There's a very good chance a new bolt will work with no modifications and no problems, BUT if headspace is too long with the new bolt, barrel would need to be turned in deeper one thread and the chamber re-cut to proper spec. If headspace is too short, the chamber would need to be lengthened a wee bit with a reamer.
 
I don't know if this matters in this case but very early mkII M77 bolts were still push feed like the tang safety M77 rifles. My old tang safety and canoe paddle 338win were both push feed but my 300win canoe paddle and my 338win hawkeye are both controlled round feed.
 
I was told by Ruger that all bolts and breeches were machined together at the same time and "mated" for an extremely accurate fit. That was many years ago when I lost a bolt and tried to order one to replace it. Ruger insisted that I ship the rifle to them for that reason. It was pricey,but,it worked flawlessly. I doubt that policy has changed.

yeah this is true, rifle in question was CRF, an my hawkeye was CRF.

the rifle sold quick stix

Any bullets or loads your whelen especially likes? I just got a hawkeye and finding freedom seeds isn't easy.

those 250gr hornady SP were a simple task to develop an shot well.

havnt played enough with serious development for it really, just use it under 200, speer 250 hot cor are next up- i used varget on all bullets
