Ruger PC Carbine

People complaining about things coming loose on a gun like this really sound like they don't understand the mechanics of a firearm. These aren't high-tech items, they're actually fairly old and primitive designs, just reused, repackaged and resold. They require the same level of care and attention to make function that they would back in the old days when people didn't have such unrealistic expectations.

Thread adhesive is another thing that is neither high tech or expensive.

You might not consider the PC Carbine to be high tech but I bet if you went to the factory you'd be surprised at the tech involved.

Maybe I didn't go back far enough but I don't see anyone complaining about it, just commenting...

I just ordered the rifle, and I'm getting a Glock 48 9mm. What mags should I get/from where? Just asking for people who have had the rifle a while now what your opinion is. Thanks!

i have both, the 48 mags will not work in the PCC, the mags are too narrow.
you need the normal sized mags from the 17, 19, 34 or any such length normal 9mm mags.

I too found almost everything was loose when I did my first teardown on both my PCs. Loctite is pretty much essential with this gun. I even lost the front sight at one point...

yup.. happened to me too after around 500 rounds. PITA looking for the little screws on gravel.

Rear sight loosened up on me after a couple hundred rounds also, I’m going to tear it down and loctite it up.

i havn't had any issues with anything on mine but i did take it fully down when i first got it and cleaned with G96 and reassembled.
im thinking that ill add a evening this winter to 'disassembly and loctite'.

I use lead bulleted handloads as well. Dirty cases with no damage and perfect functioning. What lube are you using?

I have a Magna Lubricator so I am using their hard lupe. I have used soft "Felix" lube for years in my Beretta Carbine with good results as well. Blowback actions are dirty no matter what you use. I have not seen any difference in cases using FMJ vs lead vs factory. My Beretta and Ruger work well with lead cast bullets....the Sub2K not so much.

Was out plinking this morning with the PCC, and had a click instead of a bang. Or maybe the trigger didn't reset, or something. Anyways, the was a round 2/3 of the way into the chamber and it wouldn't extract but a few taps on a fibreglass rod run down the barrel and a somewhat malformed round popped out.

Anyone else see anything like this? I'm not sure if it was messed up when the preceding round chambered or during its own cycle.

Not sure if anyone else has discovered this but when I zeroed it not long ago with 124gr ammo and the iron sights, the rear slider had to be in the top most position to get on the bull at 50yds. I'd like to zero it for 75 but I don't think that'll be possible without a new front sight. Thoughts?

Reloads?

Flinch?

Mine is around the middle of the height and shoots to POA at 50 yards with 115 gr and 124 gr factory and reloads.

Picked up one of these yesterday. Fired 100 rounds of tula steel case and 50 rounds of Winchester white box. No issues and it runs well. Fun little rifle.

I haven’t had much reliability with steel case, eats everything else though.

Same, middle of rear sight slider.

I zeroed my irons at 50m before mounting the red dots. No issues. I had to push both a little to the left but otherwise there is lots of room for adjustment.

Well three of us went out to the range to shoot IDPA PCC Classifiers.

Let's understand, at the outset, I am no rifleman. I wasn't when I was younger and the ageing process hasn't changed that fact some number of years later.. My ego is parked

Anything that follows has nothing to do with the Ruger's ability to shoot fast and accurately. The gun is well made and very reliable..

Using both the 5x5 Classifier and the PCC Classifier I managed to shoot Novice. Off the charts as they say. I was slow but reasonably safe. To the shooting, bur first I had installed a sling on my Ruger. I quickly concluded I might well strangle myself if I used the sling so I didn't attempt to use it. With practice the sling would be a decent shooting aid but I felt for the time being caution was the better part of valour.

The Ruger performed well sending the bullets where the barrel was pointing, which for the most part was where I intended the bullets to end up. There were a few exceptions but nothing to really worry about. The PCC Classifier is shot at 15 and 25 yards and the Down Zero areas are an 8" and 4" circles. Outside that you are scored with extra time in 1 and 3 second increments. A miss would be 5 seconds.

Two things immediately came to mind. The Ruger reset is longer than my pistols and it can't be rushed by me ...yet. Until I get more practice in, I will be letting the trigger go to full reset rather than riding the trigger. My friend actually pulled on the trigger to quickly and found he had to physically push the trigger to full reset before he could continue. This happened only once to him. Both of us are more experienced shooting pistols quickly. My friend is more of a rifleman than I but he suffers the same issues. We both have rather "experienced" bodies if you get me drift. My one reload "on the clock" was a bit of a train wreck and practice will deal with that issue. Otherwise the whole experience for me went well.

The Ruger's trigger, once you get past the reset is quite crisp. The carbine is easy to manage but handgun shooters have to remember the carbine is longer so hugging walls when shooting is not going to be a winning strategy. It isn't with a pistol either but with a carbine even more so. I have three days to work on the use of a sling and play with the Ruger I don't expect magic improvement but it would be nice to not look like a drunk on steroids. Maybe I should settle on optic technique aka style points and leave the real shooters to their game.

Yesterday's experience tells me the Ruger has real potential in Canada when it comes to IDPA PCC Division. I was pretty inept but the rifle wasn't. How it would compete with an AR in 9MM is open to question. For week end shooters out for some fun with their friends, which represents most of the shooters I meet in IDPA, the Ruger PCC will find a home. For the determined, time will tell if it can compete with the AR platform in 9MM or some of the shorter carbines using pistol mags. The gun should fly under the Liberal radar and that, in today's environment is something to think about.

ps The Sparc2 performed really well. No issues with the Optic.
