So, i ordered up 2 of the Canadian legal length Ruger PC Carbine's.
one arrived via mail today and the 2nd my dad was kind enough to pick up for me at Bass Pro with their Black Friday Sale.
he is gonna send that one up so with the mail service it will be a little bit before i see that one.

but i wanted to swing in and put up a quick note about the new rifle.
im not going to lie, i have been waiting for this rifle for many years.
pull up a chair and let me spin a yarn for you and ill let you know a little strange fact i found out about the new rifle that arrived today as well.

so back in 1995 i was in my early 20's and decided to get into pistol shooting.
my first gun was a Ruger P89 9mm.
absolutely loved that gun and still have it today.
later that same year Ruger put out their PC9 and i fell in LOVE.
the thought of having a rifle that used the same magazines as your pistol and the same round.... blew my mind!

unfortunately the stars never aligned for me.
either i had no money when the opportunity came to get one or when i had money non could be found.
either way i went without..... always wanting one but never getting one.
fast forward to 2018 and the new iteration on the Ruger PC comes out and i jumped all over it!

so excited to get this rifle.
to make things even neater i actually have a ruger SR9 pistol so dont even have to change out the magwel and i can run it stock.
granted i have 3 glock 9mm but i think im gonna leave it with the SR9 magwel so that way i can use my SR9 more.

but i found something very strange when i unboxed the rifle today.
the magazine was very..... small
i looked at it and it was obviously smaller than the magazines for my SR9, yet labeled right on the magazine is SR9!
so strange.
so i run into the house and got my SR9 out of the safe and popped out the magazine and sure enough the mag that came with the rifle is only about 2/3 as long.
i tried to put the short mag into my pistol, not even close to fitting, easily 2 inches to short to even be close to feeding into the pistol.
i found that strange.
so i went onto Ruger's website and went and had a read of their write up about the rifle and it says right on the sight - comes with a Ruger SR magazine.

so i went to look at the SR9's and saw a Ruger SR9C - the compact model.
sure enough that is the magazine they sent with the rifle.
and here i was expecting to get a extra magazine for my pistol out of the deal!!

at any rate, ill be heading out to the range tomorow with the new rifle and 200 rounds of 9mm to break it in.
im super excited to go shooting.
im not gonna lie, this is easily the most excited ive been about going shooting ever!

first impressions of the rifle:
super solid rifle, i was expecting the stock to be thin plastic and cheap feeling like the Ruger American stocks but the stock is actually solid and has some heft to it.
they say on the video that the PC Carbine is very simular to the 10/22 and they are correct..... if the 10/22 was on steroids and hitting the gym for 5 hours a day for the last 8 years!
the gun is a lot thicker than i was expecting.
kinda like the GP100, bigger and thicker than youd expect, same goes for this rifle.
the lock up of the take down is super tight, a LOT tighter than the 10/22's and i am guessing its because everything is bigger, bigger diameter barrel, more metal to grab onto, either way it locks up TIGHT!
sights are good, different, the rear is mounted a lot more forward than any rifle ive ever shot, but i guess its good because you can mount an optic behind it, im thinking QR red dot is what ill go with.

took the rifle down, gave it a good cleaning, super nice fit and finish, no tool marks or anything, everything is smooooooooth.
let the rifle soak in some G96 as i will be doing winter conditions while shooting tomorrow.

so thats where im at, gun is here, its a lot more than i was expecting it to be and im super impressed with it.
tomorrow i will report back with how range time went with it.
ill add some pics of the rifle and the short magazine to you visual people.

Yeah the pics are there ..... cool looking rifle. Maybe a little longer and heavier than I’d want in a 9mm rifle, but still interested.

Didn’t you do some cold weather/adverse conditions testing of 22lr take downs? Are you gonna put this rifle through the paces too?

I’m surprised it’s never been mentioned that the SR9 mag is for a compact model.

Now that I think about it, when the sub2k first came out, it had more magazine configurations available .... not just smith and Wesson and Beretta, but also the choice of Glock 19 or Glock 17 magwells. Maybe Ruger offers models in SR9 and SR9c ?

Looks great!
As for the mag, keep in mind that it is "long enough" (as opposed to regular large capacity pistol mags which then have to be neutered to comply with Canadian laws).

I'd say it's quite handy not having a "big stick" sticking out of the mag well.
(Also, if you change the charging handle to the left side, you may find that there's a dab of thread lock to overcome when you're taking the screw out).

Looking forward to a range report!

total strip down of the gun last night and this morning, good in depth cleaning with G96 to prepare it for the cold weather.
went out this afternoon and put a couple hundred rounds though it.
gun ran flawlessly!
i was just running the iron sights so far.
i got home and put a red dot on it that i think ill keep on it.
but im kinda wanting to put a scope on it and see what it will do at 100m with glass on it.
im kinda curious to see how accurate 9mm is that far out.

as for the take down, wow is this gun a LOT like a 10/22 on the inside!
the entire trigger group is 90% the same as a 10/22 just like 20% bigger and beefier!

i took the entire gun down to every last little spring and pin without watching any video or reading the manual.
if you know how to take down a 10/22 then your pretty much an expert on this gun.
couple changes but not too much.

super impressed with the anodizing or whatever it is they put on this gun.
unlike the 10/22 they actually did the ENTIRE inside of the receiver and its smooooooooooooooooooth so that bolt slides in there like its on glass rails.

so, so far with 1 outing in the cold winding snow the gun ran great!
im gonna try it with the red dot on it for range trip #2 hopefully Saturday or Sunday then ill put some glass on it on Monday or Tuesday and try that as long as the weather isn't too cold and windy.

also, forgot how good of a shot i am with that damn SR9 pistol!
..... but swapping out the magwell and running the 19X with it is tempting!!!!!
