Ruger PC experience

Come on you guys. You aren't buying a head of lettuce. In what Universe would you expect a store to have the screw for a part on a firearm? If I opened the box for a rifle and noted a missing screw I might be inclined to take the whole package back for a refund. Having said that, I have never bought a new firearm where the part was missing either. I am trying to visualize the part we are talking about here. Is it the screw that holds the receiver to the stock or the screw that holds the forearm to the barrel? Or is it an internal screw?

There is a warranty card in the box the gun came to with instructions as to who to contact if there is an issue with the gun.

Send in your concerns and wait for a reply. Personally I have found Ruger to be quite responsive to any questions I have had about their products.

The top receiver has 3 screw points for the chamber / front area that connects to mlok barrel. The top screw is always exposed but the other 2 you need to remove the lower receiver to see. The screw missing on one of the sides.

the online support request doesnt let me choose provinces. ill give Gravel (the canadian warranty repair station) a couple of days to reply. if they dont respond ill have to call the ruger:

"If you do not see a distributor listed for your country, please contact our Export Department directly (Telephone: 603-863-3300, Fax: 603-863-9371), with a full description of your Ruger firearm, serial number, and details of the problem you are having. It is very costly and time-consuming to return your firearm to the U.S. for service, and we may be able to resolve the problem locally."

thx for the offer, dont worry i got this. my work phone can call the US. ill keep you guys updated on the progress.

funny thing is that i remember seeing an unboxing disassembly video on youtube and in that video it was missing one of the bolt pins. ruger needs to step up their quality control.

Schitt happens, no production line is immune. I thought this sounded like a known issue...

I'd for sure ask FOC, worst they can say is "no". For all we know, they may have an unsellable specimen of the same rifle sitting in their warehouse from a different QC issue. Or maybe they have new stock arriving this afternoon.

Gravel does not have a great reputation for timely service, but maybe they'll impress us all here.

I did contact FOC. They told me to contact Ruger warranty in Canada. I then sent an email to Gravel Friday night.

I just realized after looking again on Rugers website their service request form does let me choose a province after picking a country

I just sent in a request to Ruger. We'll see who replies first.

I just got a reply from Ruger USA:

Unfortunately, due to the regulations governing the export of firearms, parts and accessories, we do not process direct orders from international consumers or dealers.

Our Canadian Repair Station will be able to assist with service/parts for your firearm:

Gravel Agency Inc. - Canadian Repair Station

Have you checked in the box the gun came to see of the screw might be in a small plastic bag or fell out in transit and is still in the box?

Purchased the adjustable stock non-restricted version a few years ago online from one of the sponsors.
When I received the carbine I did a thorough inspection and found the adjustment knob was seized and would not turn in either direction so I could not take up the play in the slightly loose barrel.
The play wasn't excessive but I knew it would affect accuracy if I wasn't able to snug it up just that extra bit.
I wasn't about to send the carbine to SnapShots (at that time) for warranty. I scanned the Ruger forums and found others had experienced the same issue and a fix was documented by Ruger on how to resolve the issue.
Essentialy I had to take apart the barell and the locking mechanism and reseat the cage that backs onto the adjustment knob, not a hard job just a little time consuming.
I found that the internal and external threads where extremely dirty and the cage was not in the correct position and had jammed the nut.
Cleaned, lightly polished then lubricated the threads, repositoned the cage, reassembled and adjusted the tension the way I wan't it, good to go.

Other than the above mentioned issue, I consider it to a well made rifle including the fit and finish, specs say 7.3 lbs and some may consider it on the heavy side.
No issues feeding the various brands of ammo I use and no complaints with accuracy.
Other than a Vortex prism sight on top, its run stock.
No doubt Ruger's QA should have picked this up in the first place, but none the less I'm satisfied with the purchase.

Could just be how the "new Ruger" is choosing to do business. Quality control costs money, every manufacturer makes a careful assessment of how much QC is needed for their brand.

On the plus side, Ruger firearms tend to be designs that you can service yourself (at least, relative to some).

Not playing conspiracy theorist or anything, but with regards to new buyer of the PC Carbine and FOC - do we have any assurances that the firearm was actually net new and not a return or something like that?

I bought an illuminated scope from FOC a couple of years ago. It was on sale and nowhere did it say that it was open box or a return, etc.

I was so delighted with the price I neglected to realize that the inside packaging job did not seem like the usual new item with the baggie in which the scope arrived was not wrinkled and all solid. In this case the baggie was all krinkled and it looks like the scope was just shoved into the bag and then the whole thing fitted into the carboard cutouts. But what also led me to know that what I bought was likely a return was the fact that the battery that was supposed to be included with the scope was not, even though the manual said it would be. I didn't realize this until a lot later since I didn't really buy it for the illumination.

At any rate, I would pursue a warranty on the carbine, even for something very minor. Best Ruger/Gravel has it and can check it over for any other issues. Yes, things can happen QC wise - I did end up getting a defective muzzle brake on a Tikka that I bought (which was definitely brand new) - warranty call fixed that and Stoeger confirmed the MB was factory defective. So things happen and even if it is minor, best to do the warranty call.

It's hard to say since the package doesn't come in a sealed box with security stickers

And with one of the allen keys missing I wouldn't be surprised now if it's a return package or had parts swapped

Wow now that sounds fishy. I am wondering if someone bought that gun, took the screw they needed for some place on theirs, and then returned it. If the screw was in an out of the way place that might not be easily noticed then the person taking the return may never know. It goes back on the shelf to be sold again. I would be pressuring FOC for a new replacement based on that probable scenario.

i dont have anything against FOC. But your original picture with rust kind definitely sparked this thought in my mind but didn't want upset you. The one i bought couple of weeks ago at alfahertys was screaming new on all sides and i bought in person. It was lubed well. Today i fired it for first time and it was amazing.

but who accepts firearm return ? will FOC do ? alfahertys told me no return on firearm or ammo and on sale priced / price matched items.

Gravel sent me a form to fill out to get a reference number to ship.I called FOC explained how gravel will take months and and asked for an exchange. They had no stock left to exchange but will let me refund.

Will probably go this week or next week. Hopefully when I go they got more new stock and I can just exchange.
