Ruger Precision Rifles

You are shooting 6.5...do they have on in the correct size for that?

308 brakes should work fine.

Coretac a local Canadian company makes specific RPR brakes and in 6.5C

I may have to go with them, I had one a long time ago on a rifle sold. Loved how EZ they are to put on, but damn thing is a brick... I plan on hunting with this rifle, not sure I want a 50 cal sized brake on it.

Have to considered the Insite Heathen?

Any ones thoughts on this ? I don't need a brake for recoil as the rifle is plenty heavy enough to handle the 6.5 comfortably. So I don't want to get hammered by sound and develop a twitch or other negative things....

SO yah, thoughts ? Looks clean, not to big and bulky.. Should help a little. Although I don't want a giant fireball in my optic every time I shoot lol.

OR should I be looking at a linear brake/comp ?

(life would be so easy If we could have suppressors)

Th biggest downside of the brake in your link will be the ports on the bottom. If you are shooting prone, it will be kicking up all kinds of dust and debris. I currently have the Giffin 30SD muzzle brake on my RPR. My next brake will be the Heathen. I love how simple it is to install and time, and very effective according to the reviews.

I'm using the Lantac Dragon, from CanadaAmmo:

It is pretty awesome at reducing recoil, very easy to install. Sure is loud though. I didn't realize how much the noise would reverberate inside the shelter at the range. And anyone beside you gets blasted with a shockwave! Same as any muzzle brake though.

What kind of ammo have you guys tried in your RPR? I've tested a number of factory loads (308) and will post results once I've compiled them.

Check out Tracer Hit Light's TI bolt shroud with the bolt tool, the plastic one bugged my tinker OCD so picked one up, great place to deal with too, they also have annoed aluminum if you prefer the black.

Hello Everyone,

I just finally put the first 25 rounds though my .308 RPR yesterday, and am having a hard time closing the bolt with each round, as well they don't seem to feed properly from the magazine. Has anyone seen or had issues like this?

Thanks.

What ammo are you using? Does it do it empty? Are you still running the plastic bolt shroud?

I have one in .308 and feeds flawless from the steel mags although I hate loading them, out of 100 rounds or so of Hornady steel match I had one round that took a bit more effort pulling open to eject but between them and brass rounds never had trouble closing.

I swapped out my bolt shroud for a TI one, it is machined tighter so it doesn't rattle, they take a bit of breaking in, or you can polish them a bit to fit, they can cause the bolt to need a bit more effort to open and close but nothing extreme. I assume yours is fine when empty, but just throwing it out there.

Your head space could be out a bit, do you have access to go and no go gauges?

Interesting thoughts, thanks for the info. I'm still using the plastic bolt shroud, so I think I'll change that out. All 25rounds were hand loaded to exact spec, lapua brass, cci br primers, etc. The bolt is pretty rough with no ammo, and extremely tight, even with just an empty she'll.

Are you wanting to stay on target for faster follow up shots? In my mind, there are two reasons to use a brake: tame the recoil of some ultra super magnum and/or faster follow up shots. Hunting with a brake should be a no-no unless all parties have hearing protection. Just for kicks one day, I shot a .223 with no ears and my ears still ring just thinking about it. For the competitive shooter, like a prs shooter, a brake will allow you to stay on target and allow for quicker split times.

And I picked one up in .243 and with crappy 100gr federals, I got a .5 moa 3 shot group at 100. Just pointed soft points. It was amazing. I did a little load development, and without playing with the seating depth I was only able to get 0.70 moa with 105 berger bt's. Does anyone know where I can find some berger 105 hybrid's?
