Only happens with the Ruger 10/22 mags, Butler Creek “banana” 10 round mags feed fine but the mags are a little “tighter” fit in the mag well.

I can get the Ruger rotary 10/22 mags to work 100% of the time if I push gently on them from underneath.

Checked online, not sure if this is a common issue. I’ve contacted one of the Ruger centres in Canada to see what they suggest. Anyone else had a similar issue? Is there a solution?

Super common issue, no solution known. I've seen photos of people adding thick build-ups of JBweld to the rear vertical face of the mag, to hold the mag in the forward position, which keeps front top of mag high, which helps with feeding.

It's really quite remarkable that Ruger released a new 22lr bolt action in 2017 that suffers from major failures of nearly all forms. I've had two and both suffer from these failures at a high rate.
1. failure to feed
2. failure to extract
3. failure to eject

Thanks for the reply.

I share the mags with my 10/22 and they work perfectly in that so I’d rather not mod the mags. The butler creek mags are fine but they extend a lot longer than the rotary mags so there are times I’d really like to use the rotary mags. I read one report online where Ruger sent out a new receiver to a customer with this issue. Hopefully there’s a fix as otherwise I really like the rifle.

Update: Shortly will be sending the ruger to the Canadian warranty centre in St Foy, QB. Shipping paid for by Ruger. We will see what they say. Hoping they have a part with an updated magwell with improved tolerances. I just want to check a few torque settings first just in case.

Interesting, I didn't realize they would cover shipping both ways. Keep us updated on how this ends up.

I asked if they would send me a prepaid shipping label and they just asked for dimensions of package and weight. No harm in asking, they can only say yes or no. That’s pretty good service though. I’ll send it off shortly, I’d like to take it to the range to check every mag again first.

There is a mag adapter that is made with a 3D printer and it allows you to use a Remington 597 10 rd mag. I bought 2 but haven't shot with it. I did put the adapter in the well and it was difficult to remove, v-e-r-y difficult. Like you, with the OE mags, it was a 2 hand operation to cycle a rd. Using the Butler Creek made me like the gun all over again. I do get FTEs but I think that comes from fouling after a box or two of ammo. It does like the CCI SV with the occasional flier. Que sera sera.
