Hey guys~I'm not in "shopping" mode for anything gun-related at the moment...but now that these guns are out there, what kind of accuracy are you all seeing? The "cool" factor is very high in my opinion...but performance is key if I'm going to turn away from my Czech/German sensibilities. :) I would think that if the accuracy reports were stellar (or even very good) we'd have seen some reports on here by now. Anyone care to share their experiences? Targets? Ammo preference?

thanks!

Havnt shot the new Ruger Precision rimfire yet. However, if you are really into 22's you will know that finding the right ammo is key. From what I've read the chamber is fairly tight so they will probaly like the good stuff. CCI SV is my go to for searching for the right ammo.

Oh yes, familiar with that process. :) I don't have one of these rifles, nor will I buy one based on looks. Hoping someone with time behind one will chime in.

If anyone was watching sites like Bullseyes, they would see that there were immense quantities of these on pre-sale, and I watched them shrink week after week (I visit my favorite retailer sites regularly, keeping my eyes out for deals) Surely someone has some feedback? I'm very curious. I know that the big boy precisions mostly lived up to they hype, mine shot sub MOA out to 200 yards (as far as I could take it at the time due to range/club restrictions) after I taylored the load AND learned how to be rock steady on the bench (took some number of shots to get the fundamentals down for me - I'm not a natural I need to work hard at shooting well)

Please let us know! I'm very curious.

I haven't handled one in person but it looks like there's a lot of plastic on the rifle. Not a bad thing....does it feel cheap/thin and sound hollow like a water-gun?

A new shooter attended our 100 Meter Rimfire with one equipped with a 10-50 scope.
While he finished last I don't know if it was lack of experience, the wind or ammo testing.
I did not have time to assist him nor check out the rifle further with a youth event also on the agenda.
His first target was 97/100 but after the wind came up a 69 and 70 did not help.
He shot in the sporting rifle class from a bipod.

It looks you already provided the answer. It’s the shooter.

I handled one at sail and thought it felt really solid. I didn't mess around with the stock so I can't speak to the skookumness of the adjustments.

UPDATE: I was at my LGS on Friday, and saw one in the rack! Took the opportunity to fondle it=close to what I expected. I've shot the full-sized version before (6.5 CM) and somehow imagined it being about that size, but naturally...it's notably smaller. With the aluminum handguard/steel barrel on the business end...and a bunch of plastic on the other, it's a little muzzle heavy of course. I don't see that being an issue with a rifle that I doubt most would ever shoot offhand. I was hoping the bolt would feel a little smoother than the regular RAR, but it's the same as every RAR I've handled. @ $599 plus tax, I still want to see a convincing range report before putting it on the "maybe" list. lol

I love pretty wood and nice bluing jobs..but I could make room for a rifle that shot well, and didn't make me nervous about rain/dings/scratches etc.

If you have one of these rifles and it's grouping well, post some photos and "ammo-used" info!

I have had mine several weeks now. The ergonomics are great. The Chassis stock is very solid being made of polymer. I took the little clip off that allows you to have the full bolt throw of a short action .308 and I threw it away. I HATE the tiny bolt throws of .22's (one of the reasons why until now I never kept a bolt action 22 for very long). The long throw is nice and smooth, and maybe 1 out of 150 shells do I get a weird ejection that causes the empty shell to land in between the mag and the bolt face when its pulled all the way back, and it seems to be doing that less and less now the more I use it.

Accuracy....

Its very consistent. Just about every ammo is
"ok" out of this rifle that I have tried. 1" to 1 1/2" groups at 75m. However I wanted tighter. I have found one ammo that my rifle likes and makes nice dime size holes at 75m when I do my part... sadly I don't like the fact that my rifle chose Eley Tenex...

Ammo brands tested So far.(20-50 rounds each 10 shoot groups at 75m looking for tightest groups for elevation, fewest fliers and most reliable)
Remington Golden Bullet
Thunderbolts
Federal Bulk
Eley Sport
Eley Club
Eley Contact
Eley Edge
Eley Force
Eley Match
Eley Tenex
Eley High Velocity
Aquila Rifle Match
Aquila Pistol Match
Aquila Target
Aquila Sniper Subsonic
Aquila Super Extra

So far the I get the best value shot with Eley Sport, best accuracy with Eley Tenex, and best of both with Eley Edge. But I still have the CCI line to try as well.

Most of my shooting with this rifle is at CRPS ranges, so between 75m and 300m. I have an older Vortex crossfire (that I am replacing with a PST GenII when funds allow) mounted and can ring the 200m 10" gong VERY consistently from prone and sling only using Eley Sport (about a 1" group at 75m), using a bipod, I have to really miss-read the wind or have extremely poor firing sequence to not hit 10 out of 10 on a Ruger mag. Right now, as it sits, my custom 10/22 will out shoot this rifle all day long. However, the 10/22 has almost $2500 into it and the RPR is just a bone stock rifle. I would love to see an upgraded barrel and maybe a better extractor (some of the lower power cases didn't want to come out of the chamber after being fired), and I think this thing could compete very nicely at CRPS style events and look good while doing it. I bought this rifle to be another project rifle and build it up with upgrades as they become available and maybe field it as my CRPS primary rifle.

Here is a little video of myself shooting at the 200m 10" gong, this was my last string of shots for the day (Which also happened to be my last 8 rounds of Eley Sport) and I had just pumped maybe a 1000 or so rounds off so I was starting to get fatigued. Sorry for the watermark.. apparently I don't own a video editing software anymore....

Hey Major~thanks for the detailed post. Most curious about CCI, as I've yet to own a 22 that won't shoot one or more CCI offerings well.

Handled a couple.

Would love to see paper targets of 50 and 100 M targets!

^likewise. I do most of my target shooting @ 50 yards, so seeing 50 yard targets would tell me how the Ruger stacks-up against my CZ/Anschutz. I'm honestly less interested in 100yard targets, as it takes very little wind to blow even top-shelf match ammo off course past 50-75. 50 tells me what I need to know, I'll reach-out to 100+++ where gophers are involved. Might even hit some. :)

So, if Major (or someone else) is running their Ruger @ 50 and has some paper targets to show...I'd love to see 'em! :)

OK, I have managed to get my new RPRf out for a few sessions so far. By and large, I really am enjoying the rifle. So far, I have ~250 - 300 rounds down range and am still well within the breaking in and ammo testing phase. In fact, I still have a few boxes of different ammo coming in to test still. Now, a few observations so far:

- The rifle is not as accurate as the name 'precision' would lead you to believe. I knew this full well going into the purchase so for me, no surprises. I wanted a bolt action that took the same mags as my 10/22 and to muck with. So for me, it suits the purposes perfectly. That being said and done, it is not shooting as well as my custom 10/22. I am hopeful that it will settle down a bit.

- The rifle tends to throw the random flier out of a 5 shot string. No idea why. I will start to shoot a really solid group with good ammo and then - BAM! - screw you hippy! Frustrating beyond belief...

- The rifle is solid and well made insofar as fit & finish. All parts are solid, machined well, and look good. I really like the one one lever adjustable stock. The bolt is something out still but I do find you need to be purposeful in your manipulations with it.

- The Eley Force by far prints the best groups next to the RWS. HOWEVER, out of a 10 shot mag, 4-5 rounds will expand in the chamber to the point where the extractor cannot grab the rim and I end up prying the case out. I would love to hear if anyone else is getting similar issues with this ammo.

OK, onto the targets.

- All shots done at 50m.
- Rifle was shot with a bipod and rear bag rest.
- Scope used was a Leupold Freedom Rimfire 3x9 with the Rimfire MOA reticle.
- Some groups were 10, some were 5 depending on how much ammo I had of a given type on hand OR if I wanted to go back and shoot another ammo type a second time.
- The last photo is for the sole purpose of showing that yes, I can in fact shoot a decent group. That was shot by my 10/22.

Amazing, thanks for that! '

Its what I expected to see. The eley force started to show some good paper groups!

I think it would be worth it if someone started crankin out precision barrels for them.

You're welcome - hope it answered some questions.

From what I understand, I believe Lilja had plans to turn out some barrels in the near future. Like you, I hope others do as well. Part of the reason I went for the Ruger was hoping it was going to have some good aftermarket support down the road. Time will tell...

Thanks for the reports guys. I have to say, as much as I like the idea of owning one of these....I'm not sure I'm "seeing" $700 value. ($678 after tax here). An upgraded barrel would likely correct, but also propel this gun towards Anschutz range $-wise. I guess it stays on the "wait and see" list for me.

Thanks again to those who reported their findings.

I played with one. Personally id go for the criket chassis rifle but no one seems to have them north of the border. Only a 7 rnd mag but they have a proven accuracy track record

Good to know! I just saw a few minutes ago that Shaw has also released barrels for it. I am really hoping Shilen gets on board eventually. My wife's rifle has a Shilen and it outshoots my Kidd all day long which is saying something. I'd love to see one for my RPRf.
