Ruger Precision vs Tikka Tac A1?

I've been looking at rifles on sale, based on this thread, and noticing the Ruger goes for half to two-thirds of the Tikka, so it looks like it might not be a fair comparison; they may both be great value at their respective price points but you get what you pay for; the Tikka had better be nicer for its price. So the question is the Ruger as a starter, or the Tikka as fine enough to last a shooting career.

I liked the action in the TAC A1 a lot better than the Ruger, the trigger feels better to me, the mags are expensive, but are a good mag. Zero rail is no big deal, lots of mounts around to get around that. I put Burris XTR Signature rings on it with a Delta 4-30x56, Blue Force Vickers sling, I'll make a bag rider for it, I have a BT35LW17 5H bipod for it. I like the way everything adjusts on the TAC A1 stock, it stays tight. Quite a chunk of change over the RPR and Howa and Bergara, but, I think a person gets what they are paying for with it. To me it was somewhat like when I went to buy a new truck a few yrs back, couldn't talk myself out of buying the same again, I tried to, tried really hard, but, the features proved its worth over the others, and has paid off over time. One of the QD swivel sockets wouldn't let the swivel lock down, Stoeger sent me another one n/c, no hassle, sent them a pic of it. But, that is an outside purchased part, doesn't reflect on the gun at all. Allin all, I think the extra was worth it.

Hey old303, what did you end up buying? I'm sitting in the same boat as well.

Nice to see this old thread come back to life. I ended up going with a Tikka CTR 6.5CM, which will soon be sitting in a McMillan A3-5 (if it ever arrives). The thing is an absolute tack-driver, even in the plastic factory stock.

I can't recommend Tikka enough. Even if you're on a budget, just find a used Tikka in an appropriate caliber, put it in a MDT or Oryx chassis, and you're good to go. My buddy did that recently and he's very happy, he spent $1500 on a used Tikka Varmint 308, with a Gen1 Vortex PST mounted with Burris XTRs, Harris bipod, and muzzle brake (granted, that was an exceptionally good deal). He put it in an Oryx chassis and he's all set up for $2000. I'd put his rifle against an RPR any day.

I have a Tikka Sporter T3 308 in a Cadex but will like to change barrel to a 6.5mm Creedmoor m24 or mtu Bartlein barrel is it possible and would like to know how much to pre fit and installation will cost
