hey guys,

just thought I would show off the latest project gun. its a ruger ranch 7.62x39. I ended up picking it up for some bush hunting (anything under 100 yards) deer, coyote etc.. I didn't like the plastic tupperware stock on the ruger so I thought I would look at a few options. it just so happened there was a new bell and carlson stock up on the EE form for a ruger american SA for a great deal so I figured I could make something work. I ended up cannibalizing the old stock for the mag well. I had to shave it down some to get that perfect fit, then drill and tap into the aluminum bedding block of the stock, after all that was done I glass bedded it. in all it was a couple hours and a good bit of fun. she feeds like a champ and is solid as a rock. the total build was less than what I could score a CZ in 7.62x39 for(all used /new EE buys) that's what I really wanted but I'm very pleased with the way this came out and now I have a one off rifle.

all loaded up with extra ammo in the pouch it weighs in at 7.3lbs... nice short, fast and light package.

I like the stock on it, would have passed on the flash hider and put on a standard scope instead on the red dot... it will probably be capable of way more accuracy than the red dot will prove out.

I have an M77 Mark II Stainless 7.62X39 in a Rosewood insert paddle stock that shoots like a champ.

Nice work, is the Mini-30 mag well permanently attached? Some people have converted the AR magwell for use with the 7.62X39 and allow LAR mags.

No need for a scope for 100 yards and under. I wanted a fast light gun, scope defeats the purpose on this specific rifle. I have a bunch of other rifles suited for other tasks

I like it. I don't have a bolt gun in 7.62x39 yet but when I'm back into some money, I will look into something similar. Likely go with a 1-6x optic though with scout relief.

Skinner sights make a nice scout rail for the ruger ranch to mount a scout scope. I didn’t want the weight but if I was planning to use it at longer distance I would get the skinner rail and a 1-4 or 1-6

Yep it is

I have a couple of those models as well as numerous other red dots. For an inexpensive optic, the Holosun will take an incredible amount of abuse. And I mean abuse! :)

The auto on/off feature is great and battery life is excellent. Plus they are lightweight and will hold zero.

They ‘scout’ easily. The mag well is less than $50 to replace to AR pattern mags.

those look nice skinner stuff eh, yeah they do unless you want to change out the stock then you need to do some modification. i just don't like polymer stocks. looks like the AR magwell wont work in my Bell and Carlson stock due to the mag release... i had to cut that part off on the original mag well to fit it in the stock.

yep same, i have another one on my berretta 1301 comp and its seen over 5000 rounds of various loads and its still going strong. cant complain for what they cost

I was not suggesting a high magnification scope for your close range set-up... I mounted a VX-3 4.5-14X40 on my Ruger 7.62X39 (below), but it is mostly a range toy... however, there are good low power Illuminated scope options these days, they have a wide field of view, allowing you to shoot both eyes open if you choose, and there are bright & fast reticle options... the benefit of these over the red dot, is the ability to accurately make shots at longer ranges and when time permits, to settle down and make precise shots when precision is required. I'm betting you will get good accuracy out of that rig at 200 yards... just gives you more options without really giving up anything.
