Ruger ranch 7.62x39 modified scout build.

I was not suggesting a high magnification scope for your close range set-up... I mounted a VX-3 4.5-14X40 on my Ruger 7.62X39 (below), but it is mostly a range toy... however, there are good low power Illuminated scope options these days, they have a wide field of view, allowing you to shoot both eyes open if you choose, and there are bright & fast reticle options... the benefit of these over the red dot, is the ability to accurately make shots at longer ranges and when time permits, to settle down and make precise shots when precision is required. I'm betting you will get good accuracy out of that rig at 200 yards... just gives you more options without really giving up anything.

yep i have a couple VX-R's 1-4x on a couple other rifles (just slapped one on my P series K31) that are built for mid range, im pretty specific when it comes to my needs for certain types of hunting rifles and usually bring along 2. i have 130 acers i hunt so i know the property well and where things are traveling. you are right i could most definitely squeak some more accuracy out of it with a magnified optic but i have other rifles for that and wanted to keep this one as light as possible. this doubles as my wifes hunting rifle to so a point and shoot makes it easy for her.

lovely rifle BTW

I see... my recommendation was made without the benefit of knowing what you already have in your gun safe. At any rate, the rig should do exactly what you are asking of it, and quite nicely... good shooting!

Skinner built the rail and backup sights.

Thats what I thought, but I only see a full rail on their website, which is broomstick ugly to me.

Thanks for the reply.

Your setup is what I'm looking for, but with a different front sight;

I like your setup of the short rail and rear sight.

My thoughts for a front sight so far!

Nice little rifle Slipery.:cool: I'm happy with my Ranch using the issue stock so far & the shorter depth mag is good for me. Had a nice Ruger 77 for years that
I carried in the woods ( Same rifle as hoytcanon's unit.) as well as a CZ 527 carbine that was a good unit too. Can't put down the 7.62x39 as it has proven
so well since it's adoption into military & sporting rifles.

Me eyes can't do the red dot sights now, so I stick with a 1-4x Bushnell Prime with lighted center dot that works dandy even though it looks a tad porky
on my Ranch in .450 BM. Just a few oz shy of 7 lbs on this thumper. ;)

Here are a pair of the original Ruger Scout rifles... the M77 Mark II Frontier Stainless in 7-08 Rem and .358 Win. The scout scope concept did not work for me, so I set them up conventional.

The mag well is from Snapshot guns. They’re in Quebec and we’re great to deal with. It’s as simple as can be. 2 screws, that’s it! The sling is from Andy’s leather. It’s the Rhodesian model. Very handy and beautifully made.
